When France decided to pull out of Vietnam, many diplomats gathered at the Geneva Conference to create the Geneva Accords. The Geneva Accords were a plan to help Vietnam become independent without falling to communism. -

My Lai Massacre
In South Vietnam, American soldiers performed mass murder on a small Vietnamese village full of unarmed men, women, and children. People were ruthlessly beaten, killed, and their homes burned to the ground. -
Nixon Wins Election
After losing to Kennedy in 1960, Nixon won the presidential election in 1968. He ran as a republican, and won partly due to division in the democratic party over the war. -
Invasion of Cambodia
President Nixon announced that US and South Vietnamese troops were to invade Cambodia in order to disrupt north Vietnamese supply lines. -
Fall of Saigon
The north Vietnamese army took over Saigon with little resistance and named it Ho Chi Minh City to honor the comminust north Vietnamese leader.
