Vietnam War Begins
The Vietnam War began because of the fear of communism. The U.S. chose to be involed so a domino affect would not keep going ever since North Korea fell under communism. -
John F. Kennedy becomes president
John F. Kennedy was electedd president because the U.S. believed he can make us successful. -
John F. Kennedy was assasinated; LBJ becomes president.
John F. Kennedy was assassinated while going through Dealy Plaza. He got shot in the head and the neck. There was no way to save him from not dying. -
LBJ becomes president
LBJ was the Vice President when Kennedy was running. Since Kennedy got assassinated he was sworn in and elected president. -
First major U.S. combat units enter Vietnam
The war was going on before the U.S. came between the South and the North Vietnam. The U.S. came to help South Vietnam to stop the North from becoming communist. -
Martin Luther King Jr got assassinated
Martin Luther King Jr. got assassinated in Memphis, TN. After the death of MLK lots of violence broke out right after his death. -
Richard Nixon becomes president
President Nixon becomes presidents shortly after LBJ. Nixon believed in Vietnamization and wanted all the troops out of Vietnam as soon as possible. -
U.S. starts withdrawing from Vietnam
Vietnamization was known for withdrawing from the Vietnam War. Every year more and more troops were leaving Vietnam and coming home. They didnt have a nice welcome home either. -
Kent State Massacre
4 Kent State students were killed by troops. It was also known as the May 4th massacre. -
Richard Nixon is re-elected
Nixon defeats Senator George McGovern and is re-elected President of the United States. With only 55 percent of the electorate voting. -
U.S. cease-fire with North Vietnam
Nixon told the soldiers to cease-fire with North Vietnam and we will return to the U.S. and get out of war.
