    Eisenhower and the domino theory
    Eisenhower explains to the people at a press conference what the domino theory is. One of the main reasons U.S. entered the war was because of the theory and that is why Eisenhower was trying to back it up. The domino theory was if one country turned communism then the idea would spread and other countries would turn communist, so if one falls all of them fall to communism.

    About 70,000 Viet Cong led a attacked called the tet offensive. They surprised attacked south Vietnam and hit about 100 significant cities. This showed that North Vietnam could fight in this war and cause casualties so this was a turning point in the war for the communist.

    An estimated 500 people especially women and children were killed. The american's led this and after tried to cover it up. This caused a credibility gap and had the people turn against the war.

    Richard Nixon went up against the vice president of the time Hubert Humphrey. It was a very close election and no candidate had more than 50% of the votes, this is also do to a third party. Nixon won the election by about 500,000 votes, making it one of the closes elections in U.S. history.

    Was suppose to be a 3 day festival of peace and music. At first sold 186,000 tickets, but very early people showed up early and festival was nervous on crowd control. So they decided to make the festival open to the public and free. Then half a million people showed up and was a shock and caused traffic on streets.

    A large group of students protesters met at kent state school. Was peaceful at first but then later in the day the protesters turned violent. U.S. military started to shoot and killed 4 people, two of which weren't even protesters.
  • Fall of Saigon

    Fall of Saigon
    North Vietnamese Army took over Saigon with little fight. They renamed the city Ho Chi Minh City. This was in honor of their leader who was communist and had died.
