  • French Defeated

    The French troops are defeated by Viet Minh. It was called the Battle of Bien Dien Phu. The battle was over a small mountain on the border of Vietnam
  • The Geneva Conference

    Conference between North and South Vietnam. The conference was made o try to create peace and unity in Vietnam. Though effort was put into the conference it was found unsuccessful
  • President Eisenhower Sends Military Assistance to South Vietnam

    Sending military assistance showed where we stood in the war and was one of our first involvements with it.
  • John F. Kennedy Elected President

    Gave our country a new leader which could make or break the war
  • Gulf of Tonkin

    A U.S. ship was attacked. The attack enraged people and created more tension. As a result of the attack, the U.S. got involved.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was put in place by Congress. It was put in place to allow the president to make any decision they deemed necessary to make peace.
  • Drafting in America

    The first draft since World War II. Instilled fear in Americans and caused some to flee. People were not supporting the war.
  • Kent State Shooting

    Anti-war protesters were killed and injured in a shooting because they were protesting the war. Created even more tension between people who were anti-war and those who were for it.
  • Pentagon Papers

    Documents showed the U.S. secretly became more involved in the war. Made Americans very upset and angry at the fact they were fighting.
  • Operation Lam Son 719

    In this operation, they had to retreat and it impacted them very negatively. Was very bad for our fight.
  • Paris Peace Accords

    The U.S. ends involvement in the war. North Vietnam continued to try and take over South Vietnam which worsens things.
  • End to Draft

    America ends the draft. This made Americans happy.
  • Nixon Resigns

    President Nixon resigns before probable impeachment leaving Americans behind. People are confused.
  • Fall of Saigon

    South Vietnam is seized and forced to surrender. This leads to the end of the war
  • U.S. is Officially Out

    President Ford eliminates all involvement in the war. This makes people very happy.
