  • Franklin D Roosevelt First Inauguration

    Franklin D Roosevelt First Inauguration
    Franklin D Roosevelt was elected in November 1933. He then took office on March 3, 1933. He led the United States through the Great Depression and World War II. within his first one hundred days he created the New Deal and wanted to help people get jobs and money. With this he created the Alphabet Agencies, organizations that employed people and helped bring money back into the economy. This was very important because FDR had helped the United States decreased the rate of unemployment.
  • First Concentration Camp Opened

    First Concentration Camp Opened
    The first concentration camp that opened was the Dachau. This camp was established by the National Sociailsts or the better known as the Nazi. This camp was opened for political prisoners which were mainly German Communists. Then other prisoners were gypsies, homosexuals and the Jews. They were only in this camp for being in one of those groups or violated the Nuremburgh Laws of 1935. These prisoners were forced to work on the camp. This is very important because this led to the Holocaust.
  • Civilian Conservation Corp is created

    Civilian Conservation Corp is created
    The CCC was created to help in employ many unskilled young men. Men came all of the nation to join the CCC. It was one of the very first time these men had ever left their home. These men worked on on public projects like planting trees, building roads and dams, fought forest fires, and improved other things. The job was very low paying but was still very popular. There were more than two million men served. This is important because it helped pull the United States out of the Great Depression.

    Night of the Long Knives
    The Night of the Long Knives was a day when Hitler orders a killing on his own men. Hitler believed that his own men would soon become the enemies. He also believed that try took the National Soiclaism propaganda program too seriously. Hitler was threatened by the behavior of the Nazi's. This is important because Hitler was afraid of his own men and decided to kill his own men shower what kind of leader he really was.
  • Spanish Civil War

    Spanish Civil War
    The Spanish Civil War lasted from 19636-1939. The Spanish military revolted against the Republican government. The Republicans received aid from the Soviet Union. The Spanish army was led by Francisco Franco.War broke out because the Spanish government was corrupt because of the Great Depression. Franco won because he had help from Italy and Germany. This is important because it was a world wide event and other countries were brought in and caused other conflicts.
  • Memorial Day Massacre

    Memorial Day Massacre
    Thia was a day when Chicago police officers shot into a crowd of protesters. The protesters were made up of steel workers along with their wives and children. Ten of the workers were killed and thirty other workers were wounded. Ok May 26, 1937 the steel workers went on strike because the manufactures would not sign with other unions and therefore they would not get enough money. This is important because nobody had that much money and instead they were attacked by the police.
  • The Munich Pact was signed

    The Munich Pact was signed
    The Munich Pact was signed by Hitler, Mussolini, Daladier, and Chamberlain. By signing this it allowed Germany to take over Czechoslovakia. This was a very important part because they had appeased Hitler, or thye gave in just so they did not create trouble. Chamberlain had actually met with Hitler the day before and discussed with him. After this meeting Chamberlain though Hitler's demands were not unreasonable unlike the other leaders.
  • British Evacuates Children

    British Evacuates Children
    The British started to evacuate the children on September 1, 1939. The British were afraid because Germany had invaded Poland tow days before the British had declared war. They were afraid of the chance of getting bombed. The children were sent to rural locations that were safe. This is important because the parents were that afraid of the German had sent their children alone to a new location. Now the adults were left to deal with the fear of the bombings. At least their children would be safe.
  • Rainbow Bridge Opens

    Rainbow Bridge Opens
    on November 15, 1938 Samuel Johnson announced that an engineer would start designing the Rainbow Bridge. This would replace the Honeymoon Bridge that collapsed due to an ice jam that was in the river. The Rainbow Bridge is a fast international bridge crossing because it has 16 lanes to inspect the cars for the US. This was very important because when the Honeymoon Bridge collapsed there was not a fast international bridge crossing between the US and Canada.
  • Executive Order 9066

    Executive Order 9066
    President Roosevelt signed the Executive Order 9066 which allowed the military to relocate Japanese Americans. After the attack on Pearl Harbor the US was very suspicious of the Japanese Americans. Over 117,000 of Japanese ancestry were put in camps. Later The War Relocation Authority was created to make remove the Japanese Americans quicker. This is very important because innocent were punished for no reason. Later acts were made to give back to those that were affected.
  • Black Market Expands

    Black Market Expands
    Rationing began in the US and prices were regulated. Ration coupons were needed to buy goods. There was a limit on how many coupons a family relieved. Housewives began to sell their coupons for money. People began counterfeiting coupons and sold them. Trucks were being hijacked for their goods. Rubber products, sugar and coffee were rare due to Japan taking our supplies. This was significant because people needed more food to feed their families and supplies ran out quickly.
  • Detroit Race Riots

    Detroit Race Riots
    In Detroit, Michigan,a race riot had lasted 24 hours. It all started at Belle Isle Amusement Park, there was a fight between a white and a black man. This fight then turned into a conflict between the whites and the blacks since the blacks were migrating to the north to get jobs. Buildings were burned and stores were being robbed. Out of 25 blacks, 17 were killed by police. This is important because it was one of the worst riots of WWII. In addition, the police had sided with the whites.
  • Victory in Europe Day

    Victory in Europe Day
    After Hitler's suicide on April 30 1945, Germany had surrendered to the Aliies. They made May 8th the official day for V-E Day even though they surrendered on the 7th. Admiral Donitz had surrendered to try and save the Germans from the Soviet Union. This was a very important day to the Allies although the war was not completely over with Japan. For this day bonfires were lit, parades were held, fireworks went off. People that lost loves ones did not celebrate. They could only think of theirlost
