    The Russian Revolution was a revolution by the Russians in 1917 that led to the rise of the soviet union. From March 8, 1917 to November 7, 1917. This significant event relates to the Cold War because this caused great tension between the U.S and the Soviet Union.
  • Soviet Bomb Test

    Soviet Bomb Test
    The Soviet Bomb test was a classified project and a development program that was authorized by Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union to develop atomic bombs and nuclear weapons during the World War II. Through 1940-1949. This is an important event because if the Soviet Union develops weapons many Americans will fear of the communists even more.
  • Iron Curtain

    Iron Curtain
    The Iron Curtain was the name for boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II to the end of the Cold War in 1992. This was so the Soviet Union would separate from the allied countries. This relates to the cold war because the countries are separated and in war.
  • Potsdam Conference

    The Potsdam Conference took place in Germany from July 17, 1945 to August 2, 1945. The conference was a meeting between the leaders of the Big Three Nations. The conference was to determine to secure political freedom and the democratic governments. This event is important and relates to the Cold War because it was to settle most important issues for the Cold War that shortly began after the World War II.
  • Atomic Bomb - Hiroshima/Nagasaki

    Atomic Bomb - Hiroshima/Nagasaki
    During the WWII, the U.S dropped two bombs after containing the consent of the United Kingdom. The first bomb was on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The second bomb was on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. This is important and relates to the Cold War because this causes problems.
  • Molotov Plan

    Molotov Plan
    The Molotov Plan was a plan made by the soviets after rejecting participation in the Marshall Plan. They decided to create a plan that helps countries in the east Europe with an economic union. It was created by a Soviet foreign Minister Vyacheshav Molotov. This is important and relates to the Cold War because it was a plan to rebuild countries in East Europe set forth by communists.
  • Hollywood 10

    Hollywood 10
    The Hollywood 10 were 10 Producers and writers in Hollywood that were called to testify and answer questions about their own political beliefs but when they refused they were sent to jail for contempt. The investigation was led by (HUAC) House of Unamerican Activity Committee. This is important because Americans could not trust anyone with other beliefs and this caused stress and worry to the United States.

    The Truman Doctrine was an American Foreign policy that countered soviet geopolitical expansion during the Cold war. It was announced March 12, 1947 and was was further developed on July 12, 1948.
  • Alger Hiss case

    Alger Hiss case
    Alger Hiss was an American government official. In 1948 he was accused of being a soviet spy. He was convicted for perjury relating to espionage. This was important to the Cold War because they accused a man for being a communist spy.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was an American Initiative to aid Western Europe. In which the U.S gave about 12 Billion dollars in economic assistance. That is nearly 100 Billion in 2016 U.S dollars. They helped rebuild the western country after World War II. This was ordered by president Harry Truman. This is important and relates to the Cold War because it was to help the spread of communism.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    The Berlin Blockade was a war strategy from the Soviet Union to block all of Berlin and Western allied powers such as United States, United Kingdom, and France from entering and exiting supplies.
    This event went on from June 24, 1948 through May 12, 1949. Their plan was to starve out the allied forces and to force them out of war. The Berlin Blockade is significant and relates to the Cold War because it is the beginning to the War tactics and strategies that will further be a great impact.
  • NATO

    NATO
    The NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was a U.S formed alliance that was 100% voluntarily. NATO's purpose was to guarantee the freedom and security of its members through military and political means. It enables members to solve problems, build trust and prevent conflict. This events is significant and important because it affected how the Cold War was going to end.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was a War between North Korea and South Korea. The war started on June 25, 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea. Korea had been split into two, one side democratic and the other communist. This war is significant and important to the Cold war because this war was a product of the cold war.
  • Rosenburg Trial

    Rosenburg Trial
    The Rosenberg couple, Julius and Ethel, were accused of selling nuclear secretes to the Russians during and after World War II. They were sentence to death and soon executed in 1953 with the electric chair. This is important and relates to the Cold War because it shows what the U.S had to face with spies and people working for the enemy. We could not trust anyone without identification.
  • Battle at Dien Bien Phu

    Battle at Dien Bien Phu
    The battle of Dien Bien Phu was a battle between the Vietnam men and the French.The battle lasted from March 13 - May 7, 1954. The French wanted to reclaim Vietnam as one of their colonies, while the Vietnamese wanted their independence. The result of the battle was that the French surrendered and left. This was an important event during the war because Vietnam had won their first Indochina fight with France.
  • Army-McCarthy Hearings

    Army-McCarthy Hearings
    The Army-McCarthy hearings were a series to investigate conflicting accusations between the US army and US Senator Joseph McCarthy. This was important because Joseph played a big part in the war for he was the US senator.
  • Geneva Conference

    Geneva Conference
    At the Geneva Conference it was decided to temporarily divide Vietnam into twos at the 17th parallel. Took place in Geneva, Switzerland from April 26-July 20, 1954. It was initially started to discuss the Korean war and the first Indochina war. This is an important event for the War because this divided up the country into two, a communist side vs. a democratic side.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact, created in Poland among the Soviet Union known as Treaty of Friendship, was a collective defense treaty signed in Warsaw, Poland. The seven countries involved were, Albania (until 1968), Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany (until 1990), Hungary, Poland, Romania,and The Soviet Union.This relates to the Cold War because this treaty was made during the Cold War to make countries help each other during the war.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    The Hungarian revolution was a nationwide revolt against the communist regime of the Hungarian peoples republic and soviet-imposed policies. This was important during the Cold War because Hungary was rebelling and wanted out of the communist party.
  • U-2 Incident

    The U-2 incident on May 1,1960 was an event about an United State U-2 spy plane being shot down by Soviets. It was shot down because it was flying too deep into soviet territory. This is important to the Cold War because they Americans were angry about this while the Soviets were just doing their job to defend themselves.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    1,500 Cuban exiles trained and financed by the CIA planned an attack on Cuba to over throw Fidel Castro and his revolution. The attack was a failed military invasion. This was important to the Cold War because Fidel Castro was a communist leader.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was built in August 13, 1961 and is now destructed. The wall was built to physically divide Berlin into two. The wall was guarded at all times. Communist Germans built the wall to keep people from leaving to the democratic side. The wall prevented emigration. This was an important event during the Cold War because at this time many people were scared of being trapped into the communist world so east Germany built to keep people inside.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War. This was the closest they got to nuclear conflict. The soviets were defending Cuba in which it is called, "Cuban missile crisis". This was an important event because it affected the relationship of Cuba and the United States during the Cold War.
  • Assassination of Diem

    Assassination of Diem
    Following from Diem being overthrown from his government by South Vietnamese military forces, Diem and his brother were captured and killed by soldiers. Diems' death caused a celebration by the South Vietnamese, but lead a political chaos in the country. This relates to the Cold War because Diem was against communism.
  • Assassination of John F. Kennedy

    Assassination of John F. Kennedy
    The assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, took place in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. He was shot and killed as he rode on a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. This is important during the Cold War because at this time John F. Kennedy was a great part of the nuclear crisis and it would affect on how the war would end.
  • Tonkin Gulf Resolution

    The Tonkin Gulf Resolution, also known as the "blank check" authorized United States President Johnson to take any measures he believed were necessary to defend and maintain international peace and security to southeast Asia. This was important to the War because it meant that the president finally had power to do something about the crisis.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder

    Operation Rolling Thunder
    Operation Rolling Thunder was the name for an American bombing campaign during the Vietnam War, US air crafts attacked targets from north Vietnam. The government thought the attacks would last only 8 weeks but it lasted three and a half years. This event was important for the War because the Vietnam air force were against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam during that time. This lasted from March 2, 1965 - November 1, 1968.
  • Election of Nixon

    Nixon won the presidential election in 1968 against the defeated democratic Hubert Humphrey after many loses. The reason why Nixon won was because he promised to restore law and order to the nations cities and provide a new leadership in the Vietnam war. This was important because this would change the result of the war and how it would end.
  • Tet Offensive

    The Tet Offensive was a battle between the Vietnamese army and the Viet Cong men. The Viet Cong men were communist and the Vietnamese were from the north. Many cities and bases were attacked and destroyed. There were a lot of Disbelief, Anger and distrust from many people after the battle. This battle went from January 30, 1968 - September 23, 1968. This was an important event for the War because the Viet Cong destroyed the Us embassy in Vietnam.
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King

    Assassination of Martin Luther King
    Martin Luther King was an American clergyman and civil rights leader that was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis Tennessee. He died at the age of 39. This was an important event because Martin Luther King was killed because of his race and beliefs.
  • Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy

    Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy
    The assassination of Robert Kennedy took place in Los Angeles, CA after winning the California presidential primary. Was shot several times by a 22 year old. This event is important for the War because Kennedy had been supporting Vietnam with the War.
  • Invasion of Czechoslovakia

    Invasion of Czechoslovakia
    In August 20, 1968 - September 20, 1968 the Warsaw pact invaded Czechoslovakia. The five Warsaw pact countries that attacked Czechoslovakia were, the Soviet Union, Poland, Bulgaria, East Germany and Hungary. This event was important because this event ended the appeasement.
  • Riots of Democratic Convention

    Riots of Democratic Convention
    This event was a Convention to nominate a democratic party presidential candidate, thousands protested against the Vietnam war. The convention lasted from August 26, 1968-August 29, 1968. This was an important event because many wanted the Vietnam war to end because of what the media was showing.
  • Kent State

    Kent State
    College students at Kent State unarmed, protest about the bombing in Cambodia. Officials took charge and shot 13 students. The total of deaths were 4 and 9 were injured. This was an important event that had happened because students peacefully protesting about the bombing that they were killed. This made many Americans angrier.
  • Nixon Visits China

    When the US president in 1972 visited China it was a significant and strategic event because then Nixon and China had connections and a new beginning in their relationship free of disagreements. This was important because we needed to trust China at the moment before another war could start.
  • Ceasefire in Vietnam

    The Ceasefire in Vietnam was an agreement of peace. The peace treaty was signed on January 27, 1973. This was an important event because there was finally an agreement and step closer to the end of the war.
  • Fall of Saigon

    Fall of Saigon
    The Fall of Saigon was the freedom and liberation of Saigon. On April 30, 1975 the communist side of Vietnam such as the North and the V.C captured South Vietnamese and forced them to surrender bringing the end to the Vietnam War. This was an important event because the war was finally finished and many US soldiers went back home.
  • Reagan Elected

    Reagan was elected on November 4, 1980. Won the election by winning votes from 49 states out of 50. This was an important event because Reagan's goal in presidency was to end the Cold War.
  • SDI Announced

    SDI stands for Strategic Defense Initiative which was a missile defense system that shoots lasers. The soviets were very afraid of this project because the soviets did not have enough money to keep up with Americas project. This event was very important during the Cold War because this might have helped America end the Cold War.
  • Geneva Conference with Gorbachev

    Geneva Conference with Gorbachev
    Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev meet up in Switzerland to discuss topics about the cold war and they signed an agreement to not use nuclear weapons on each other. This was an important event because this lead to a friendship with the soviets and America felt relived by them talking and agreeing.
  • 'Tear down this wall' speech

    'Tear down this wall' speech
    On June of 1987 President Ronald Reagan made a speech in Berlin to tear down the wall and to reunite Berlin. The wall had been up since 1961 and it divided Berlin in half. The president knew it was risky to go to Berlin and do the speech because he could have been killed. This was important because many people supported the wall to be taken down and when it finally happened everyone felt happy because they were finally out of a so called "prison".
  • Fall of Berlin

    The fall of Berlin was on November 9, 1991. Citizens were finally free to cross the border and reunite with family, and friends. The country was finally reunified. This was a very important event because this meant that the battle in Berlin against each other was ended.
