    Columbus Lands in the Americas
    On August 3, 1492, Columbus set sail from spain with 3 ships the Santa María, the Pinta, and the Niña. they set sail to find India but instead of finding India they came across another land, the "Americas" they landed in the Americas on October 12, 1492. Although they did not know they were in America.
  • Jamestown

    On May 14, 1607, a group of about 100 people came on three ships known as the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery. together they founded the first permanent English settlement in North America. In the first couple of years it was not going their way they lost more then half of their people in the first winter and lost even more to famine and disease, with the help from the Native Americans they were able to adapt to this new land and grow and make money off of the so desirable Tobacco.

    Back then they were trying to find a way to get labor for a cheap price soon later they came across Africa and discoverer people that they thought were less than them an thought they could make them wok for free. on the first voyage the sent over about 20 Africans to america and saw that the were strong and efficient workers. On the next voyage they brought more and more soon after the were coming in at a high rate by the 1700s there were more than 100,000 slaves in the southern colony alone.

    Lexington and Concord
    The Battles of Lexington/Concord was the start of the revolutionary war, started on April 19, 1775, to 1783 Tensions had been building for many years between the American colonies and the British. on April 19 about 700 redcoats arrived in Lexington injuring and killing about 9 colonists. the colonists retreated to concord with the redcoats following behind them. Finding no one at concord they torch the place. the colonist later come with about 2,000 minutemen and catch the redcoats by surprise

    The British was trying to control the colonists and keep them in correct correlation with the Britain empire, but the colonists wanted the exact opposite, they wanted to break from the British empire and become their own nation. With the help of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson and singed by many more they were able to break away from the British empire on July 4, 1776. with this document they were now able to call themselves their own independent nation.

    The Constitutional Convention was a one big gathering to decide what government to use. The 2 major ideas given was James Madison's Virginia plan and William Paterson's New Jersey plan. The 2 plans held 2 completely different ways of ruining a government, The Virginia plan requested for a bicameral legislative branch while the New jersey plan(small state plan)wanted a unicameral. Overall the Virginia plan was used but things from the New jersey plan also contributed to this new government

    Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States he held the part of president from March 4, 1801 – March 4, 1809. In the span of 8 years Jefferson did many things to make America better. Jefferson was mostly known for the Louisianan purchase, He acquired land stretching from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. He was also known for sending Lewis and Clark to go explore the unknown places of the west coast. Over all he effectively doubled the size of the United States.

    The Louisianan purchase was made by Thomas Jefferson and bought from France for 15 million dollars in 1803. The U.S. acquired approximately 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River. the purchase of the Louisiana territory stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west. The purchase of the Louisianan territory doubled the size of the United States and was known for expanding into know day America.

Jackson was the nation’s first frontier president, he gave the people a different way to look at how America could be better. Andrew Jackson Also known as "Old Hickory" had a very strong and ruthless personality towards politics. What made Jackson name known was the Indian removal act they removed and put all the native Americans in territories to the west but they did so in a very disrespectful way.

    The Indian Removal act also Known as "The Trail Of Tears" was a horrible experience the native Americans had to go threw because they were kicked out of their native homes. This act effected any and all Native Americans. They forced about 125,000+ Native Americans to move from their native homes and move further west to restart on new land. The man responsible for this act was president Andrew Jackson, He signed this act thinking it was a great opportunity to make a change in America.

    Nat turner was a slave who was angry at Slavery in general he thought that everyone should be looked at and treated equally. but he knew sitting around wouldn't do anything so he rounded up a small group to attack his plantation owner, as he attacked he gained more followers. he freed every slave on the plantation. He went from plantation to plantation leading a rebellion attacking about 3-5 plantations and freeing everyone. His rebellion came to an end when he was killed by law enforcement.

    The Underground Railroad was a way escaped slaves could make their way to the northern states where they were unable to be attacked by southern officers and slave catchers. People who led the expeditions were known as conductors, one of the most famous conductors of The Underground Railroad was Harriet Tubman or known by here undercover name the black mosses. She led many escaped slaves to free lands, she did it many times knowing if she was caught she would be killed, but she kept on doing it.

    Dred Scott v Sanford case was a case that consisted of a man named Dred Scott tying to gain his freedom and the supreme court trying to take it away from him and send him back to slavery. Dred was left in a free state by his master for a long period of time a time where he spent a long period of time in that free state know known as Minnesota and in this time he marred and decided to settle all to find out that it was not true. The court decided that no blacks could claim U.S. citizenship

    Lincoln Presidency
    Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. people thought that he should run for president after he squared off against Douglas in a series of famous debates and lost. People saw that he had some great ideas and thought that he should run this nation. Electing Lincoln made the south mad and is one of the reasons why they split from the US. Lincoln is most famous for the emancipation proclamation, the freeing of all slaves. and he did so through the Gettysburg address.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter (start of Civil War)

    Attack on Fort Sumter (start of Civil War)
    Fort Sumter is the site of the first shots that started the civil war. Fort Sumter was a union base that was attacked by confederate solders. Things escalated after president Lincoln decided to send over 3 unarmed ships to the fort to help them out because he knew they were running out of food, water and other such things. The battle initially lasted 3 1/2 days. Even thought it lasted about 3 days there were only about 1 death and only one person wounded overall there were no be casualties
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation, The freeing of all slave. The speech to free all slaves came from President Lincoln one month after the Union victory in the Battle of Antietam, the Emancipation Proclamation freed 3.1 million slaves in the US. Although it freed many slaves it only freed the slaves in the union. The slaves outside of the union would have to stay slaved until later when the 13th amendment was passed, that abolished slavery forever. The proclamation allowed blacks to become solders.

    54th regiment also known as the 54th Massachusetts was an all black regiment led by William Carney a white man. the regiment was assembled by Frederick Douglass with the help of President Abraham Lincoln. As all other solders during the civil war were getting payed the 54th was a Volunteer Infantry group they did it for free. They did it to show black people that it was the right thing to do. Many blacks followed in their footsteps. The 54th regiment came to an end during battle at fort Wagner.

    The battle of Gettysburg was a battle between the union and confederates during the civil war. The battle lasted 2 days in that time more than 46,286 deaths occurred, most in any battle. The union won the battle. they were able to push the confederates out of union territory and get an edge in war. the battle field was turned into a cemetery because of the deaths. This was not just a place of battle it was also where President Abraham Lincoln gave his most famous speech the Gettysburg address.

    Sherman's march to sea also known as the "Savannah Campaigns" was the first sighting of total war led by General Sherman conducted through Georgia from November 15 until December 21, 1864. Sherman's march to sea was a group of army union solders going through The confederate states and tearing down every thing in their path. This happened towered the end of the war when the confederates army was very week, the union was able to go into enemy territory and torch everything up.

    The Anaconda plan was one of the last plans made by the union in the civil war. The plan was given by Union General Winfield Scott early in the American Civil War but was set aside because they thought it would not work. The plan was made so the union side would blockade the Confederate. the unions naval blockade would prevent the confederates from getting food, water and other necessary things for war. if the plan was used earlier in the war their wouldn't be as much casualty as there was.

    Surrender at Appomattox (end of Civil War)
    In the Appomattox Court House General Robert E. Lee from the Confederates surrendered his Army to the Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Now that the confederate side has surrendered to the union the war was now over and the union has won. Lee surrendered when his army lost to the union and saw that he had no way out, after he knew that surrendering was best. through out all the fighting and war the union side was very lenient to the confederates when they came to surrender.
  • Lincoln Assassinated

    Lincoln Assassinated
    A man named John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865 but did not die until the next day in the hospital in critical condition, he died at the age of 56. Lincoln got shot at Ford’s Theater in Washington, D.C. while he was watching a play. he was murdered 5 days after the confederates surrendered to the union. Lincoln led us to the end of the war but was not able to lead us though reconstruction. Lincoln will go down as one of the best presidents to ever live.
  • Thirteenth Amendment Ratified

    Thirteenth Amendment Ratified
    The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and put a complete end to slavery. The ratification of the 13th amendment came a few months after the end of the war, Trying to pass the 13th amendment was a big struggle many people thought slavery should always exist and others thought it should have never existed. Thanks to many abolitionists and many supporters they were able to fight for congress to pass the 13th amendment. Although slavery was no more they still had to fight for freedoms they deserved.

    The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was the first big law preventing Chinese immigrants into the United States. A couple of years before the law was passed the immigrants coming from china flourished, they were good use as well, they would do great labor for small wages making production high so as money from business. the law restricted new immigrants coming in, but those in the US could stay. The law suspended immigration for 10 years and made it so they could not become citizens in the US.

    The Sherman Anti-Trust Act was made so big businesses were not able to be made, The Sherman Anti-Trust Act made it so monopoly were illegal monopoly were really big businesses that would make a whole bunch of money for example john Rockefeller Slandered oil company. these business bought other business and drove other company's out of business because the were just to hard to handle. When the act was put into affect all the monopoly had break up forcing them to tun out of business.

    Plessy v Ferguson
    Plessy v. Ferguson was a huge case in 1896 that ultimately started the phrase "separate but equal" and brought a new age of Jim crow a very racist and cruel way of life for blacks living in the US. The reason for the case happened when plessy refused to sit in the black only section on a train. this case deemed so big it reached the supreme court. plessy would go on to say " that his constitutional rights were violated" unfortunately he lost and it so "separate but equal" was OK to live by.
  • Spanish American War

    The Spanish American War stated after the USS main was blown up near Havana Harbor in Cuba. The war was fought between the United States and Spain. The war was really fought to see who would take control of the territories in the western Pacific and Latin America. The war was always one sided because the US was to over powered because they had a better army and navy. After the US won the treaty of pairs was singed, that meant Spain had to give up Cuba, Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States.

    T. Roosevelt was one of the first progressive presidents, before him was mostly an industrial style of presidency. T. Roosevelt was known for many things. he was the first president to add national parks because he cared a lot about the environment and thought that we should take care of our environment. He was a very good political leader holding the phrase "speak softly and carry a big stick". this was a way to scare his enemies. He was also known for being ruthless and very strong.

    President Woodrow Wilson was a very famous president because through the whole WWI he was the president. Wilson tried to keep the United States neutral during World War I but after the Zimmerman telegram was sent to Mexico he saw Germany as a really big enemy and decided to join the war on the ales side. Wilson was most famous for the his 14 points speech given at the end of the war to add peace through out the war unfortunately most of his 14 points were thrown out by the other nations.

    World War I began in 1914, after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. During the war it was the Central Powers including Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire and they fought against the Allied Powers, Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and later the United States.
    The biggest reasons for the start of the war was imperialism, military, alliance and nationalism. In this war a new type of fighting would take place and that would be trench war fair.

    When WWI came around solders found another way of battle known as trench warfare. Trench warfare can be see as one of the worst ways to do battle especially for a long period of time. Trench warfare were battles held in 7ft deep and 6ft wide trenches, these trenches were vary dirty and very unsanitary, these trenches were filled with rats and when it rained to trenches would fill up with water. An affect with staying in trenches for a long period of time was trench foot.

    The reason the Panama Canal was built was to build a shortcut between Europe and Asia. The US tried many attempts earlier but failed. they later came across panama and asked if they could build a canal through their country. At first they said no but with more negotiation they soon came to an agreement, and that agreement was U.S. would help panama gain their independents by using their military weight. The canal took about 10 years to finish by the end the canal stretched about 50 miles long.

    The Eighteenth Amendment was all about making alcohol illegal. It all started with the efforts of the temperance movement, the temperance movement was a group of people trying to band alcohol because they thought it would make the country better, and that would make scene. Although it did not work that well, now that alcohol was illegal people would be illegally buying alcohol and the people selling the alcohol were gangster people like AL Capone and they were making a lot of money off of it.

    Zimmermann Telegram****
    The Zimmerman telegram was a telegram originally sent to Mexico by Germany but intercepted by The US. In the telegram it was asking mexico to attack the US and keep them occupied until the World war was over, what they meant was to declare war on the US. The telegram stated that if they were able to keep the US from joining the war they would come to the US and help them take back original Mexican land, that would be about a quarter of the US. Unfortunately for Germany Mexico did not respond.

    WWI ultimately ended just a few months after the Russians opted out of the war and the united states entered the war. It ended when Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies to put an end to the war on November 11, 1918. The war was not technically over until the treaty of Versailles was signed. WWI left destruction and death all around the world, WWI left 9 million dead and even more wounded with 21 million, and because of this the allies thought that Germany should pay for the war.

    Wilson’s 14 Points was most likely the best way to keep peace through out the world. Although the countries in Europe thought it was too lenient against the central powers. Wilson’s 14 Points were great because it was fair among everyone and didn't put blame on just one country. It was a way they could build up Europe to be better then it was before. For ex: Wilson's plan suggested that everyone pay for the debt that has been inflicted on the war rather then just one country to pay for itself.

    The Treaty of Versailles officially ended the war, The Treaty of Versailles was singed on June 28, 1919. The Treaty could be looked at as one of the biggest reasons for the start of WWII because of the really harsh disciplines that Germany had to take from the Treaty being singed. Wilson tried to put his own rules in the treaty but the nations thought they were too lenient some were used like the league of Nations but most were not. At the end Germany had to take full blame for the whole war.

    The Harlem Renaissance was the peak for African American pride and was brought by the great migration led by W.E.B Du Bois. The Great Migration was when blacks in the south moved to bigger cities/States like New York, LA, and Chicago, each place had its own little renaissance movement but the the one in Harlem was the most effective. The Harlem Renaissance was the centerpiece of all other. unfortunately after the 1929 stock market crash and prohibition the Harlem Renaissance ended in 1933.

    The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1866 right after the Civil War but did not hit its peck until the 1920s. Now that slavery was abolished due to the 13th amendment The KKK rose to give backs in the south a hard time. The KKK was founded by people that did not believe blacks should be free. by the 1920s the KKK had more than 4 million members all reeking havoc on black lives as well as black supporters. The KKK would wear white masks and burn the cross they also held lynching on black people.

    The Marcus Garvey VS. WEB DE DeBois debates were really big in the black community in the 1920s. Both held two different perspectives on what blacks should do in the world. Marcus Garvey thought that all blacks should go back to Africa and build up the great African nation again, but W.E.B Debois thought that blacks should stay in america and make a big difference in America, he wanted these white Americans to see what the black community was able to do in the world.

    Although the 18th Amendment banned the production of alcohol and made it illegal people would still be buying it illegally. The law gave people 7 year to stop producing and buying alcohol, but most people did opposite. Most people people wet out and bought the most alcohol they could and the producers of alcohol tried to produce the most alcohol they could and that is one of the reasons why the 18th amendment did not work. Another reason they brought it back was because of the great deprecation.

    The 19th Amendment made it possible for woman to vote and was ratified on August 18, 1920, This was a big part of American history because before not many people thought women would ever have their way and now they were able to make political changes to US. The passing of the 19th Amendment ended the woman suffrage movement. The woman suffrage movement was a long and hard fight for voting rights that lasted decades, And in the end it pays off. Woman now had the right to vote.

    The Gitlow v New York decision held in 1925 showed that the creation of the 14th amendment would cross the line of the first amendment, Free speech. It started when a man named Gitlow was striped of his right to free speech and was sentenced to 5-10 years in prison but he was not done fighting he fought the courts so much the case reached the supreme court. at the end he lost but did not serve his whole sentence he was in prison for two years before he was let out on bail.

    The Stock Market Crash of 1929 also known as Black Tuesday is considers one of the biggest panics of not just the US but also the world. The US Stock Market Crash effected the whole world and not just The US. The Stock Market Crash was caused by a couple of things like the over use of stocks and also bank runs. After the Market crash the US was left in a really bad situation because more than half of the US was unemployed, homeless and living in hoovervilles.

    Franklin Delano Roosevelt came into office during the 1929 stock market crash while the US was in a really bad situation but he turned it around, and got America to where it should be at. FDR served the most terms by a president with 4 terms he was in office for 12 years. he could be seen as one of the most loved presidents to ever serve. FDR was known for leading the US threw the Great Depression as well as WWII.

    The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was one of the biggest reasons the US got out of the Great Depression led by FDR with an executive order given on April 5, 1933. The CCC was a work relief program that gave many unemployed men employment on environmental tasks during the Great Depression. The CCC was just one of many great ideas given by FDR at the time. The CCC helped poor men by giving them a job shelter clothes and even a reason to live. The CCC was disbanded before the US joined WWII.

    The Social Security Act was made by President Franklin D Roosevelt to make it possible for unemployed people over 65 to make money. It was also made for unemployed and disadvantaged Americans, Americans who were unable to go into the work business because they were physically unable to. Before the Social Security Act people weren't able to make enough money for retirement but now they were able to focus on such other things because of the Social Security Act.

    The FDR Court Packing Scandal was A way FDR could get what he wanted. He was telling the government that adding 15 judges would make things much more efficient. People thought he was just trying to get his way as a president. Critics charged at FDR and thought he was just "trying to pack” The Government. Franklin D. Roosevelt wanted to put restrictions on the court when it came to age so he said that he would provide retirement at full pay for all members of the court over 70.

    The Scopes Trial was a big meeting with the New V Old. New being the people asking the big questions like how was the world created and old being the people who have always kept things the same and leaving it that way. Scopes Trial was about a teacher teaching its class about evolution, that before humans we were monkeys. when people found out he was fired but rebelled against it because he had the right to say what he wanted. the case was taken all the way to the supreme court.
