US History 1920's - 1960's

  • Roaring Twenties!

    In the 1920's, the United States had a large boom in the economy. People had cars, radios, and telephones. Women were allowed to vote, and many more things that were good happened. However, another thing that happened that caused major distaste was Prohibition.
  • Prohibition Begins

    Between 1920 and 1933, a nationwide law was passed that outlawed the distillation, distribution, transportation and consumption of Alcohol in all forms. Moonshiners became a huge target for the police, and Mobs and Mafia would fight over the best alcohol they could get. Blood was shed over a Pint of Beer.

    Organized Crime sprees!

    Thanks to Prohibition, Mobs, Mafia, and other small groups of criminals operating in the United States have started to have gunfights over Alcohol. Many other organized crimes are happening all over the country. And to think, the people of "High Society" who were in Underground Bars get to enjoy their drink while Tony Mickey and Terry are bleeding from gunshots. Ah yes, Prohibition.
  • Floods in Louisiana

    On April 29th, 1922, a major flood backhanded Lower Louisiana, covering nearly 3,500 square miles in water. This caused the deaths of many, many people, and the loss of thousands of dollars of property.
  • Yankee's have a home!

    On April 18th, 1923, the New York Yankee's hosted the Boston Red Sox in their very own, brand new Baseball Stadium. This is a major event for any and all baseball fans around the nation.
  • Execution via Gas in Nevada

    On February 7th, 1924, the first Death Penalty took place in Nevada. This execution happened utilizing deadly gas. The gas was a form of Hydrogen Cyanide.
  • First Motel opens in California!

    The first Motel, the Milestone Mo-tel in San Luis Obispo, California, opened on December 12th, 1925. The Motel is a hybridization of "Motorist" and "Hotel", marking a station for people travelling to stop for a night and stay in a room.
  • Stock Market Crash!!

    October 28, 1929. The Wall Street Stock Market just crashed. This day is known as Black Monday. This began the Great Depression
  • Things arent looking good

    At the end of the year, 1929, many people are completely broke. Many people dont have money, many others are starving. This began the Great Depression.
  • The Great Depression Begins

    The Stock Market crash of 1929 officially marked the beginning of the multi-year span marking the Great Depression. This sent the world into a mess of Economical issues and the Dust Bowl. While officially starting in 1929, it really started to hit hard in 1930.
  • Dirty Dirty Thirties. Naughty Naughty

    The "Dirty Thirties" marks the decade when hard Dust Storms slammed the Great Plains, decimating the crop production. As if the amount of money flowing through the World wasn't low enough, crop production in the Plains was practically shut down because of these storms, making it harder and harder for these poor farmers to live.
  • Its getting pretty Dry out here

    In 1930, a huge drought hit the midwest United States. This was only one of many that would plauge the US for some time.
  • We can drink again!

    In early December 1933 the United States Government ended Prohibition. This began the age of being able to drink again, making many an alcoholic around the nation happy.
  • Not again!

    in 1934, another Drought plauges the Midwest, compounding the one in 1930-1931, and the great depression! This is only going to get worse
  • Black Sunday

    In an event that seems almost out of a Movie, high winds kicked up millions of tons of dust. Many people truly believed that the world was coming to and end. 20 people would end up dying from Dust Pneumonia and Suffocation.

    For the third time in a decade, the Midwest takes another hard drought, once again decimating Crop Production. When will it end!?
  • Take Four lets hit it Once More!

    Its finally over. This is the last one. But things wont get any easier. This is the fourth and last drought of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression that will pimp slap the Midwest. But, things wont get easier. Because this one, ended in 1940.
  • Hitler did what?

    On September First, 1939, Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of Germany and Fuhrer of the Third Reich, invaded Poland. Nazi Occupied Poland would come into existence on October Sixth, 1939.
  • Japan made a whoopsie

    "Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." - Franklin D. Roosevelt.
    This is the very first line of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's famous "Day of Infamy" Speech, given on December 8th. This ended the United State's Great Depression, and dragged us into World War Two.
  • The Great Depression is Over! It gets harder?

    Congradulations! You survived to 1941! Now go out there and shoot some Nazi's and some Japs! Thats right its time for World War Two!! Hitler's blazing a trail through Europe, kicking everone out as he goes. Hirohito's picking up Islands in the pacific like a kid picks up candy on Halloween, and now he just attacked us!     Great War: The Sequal

    Well, looks like the "War to End All Wars" didn't do a- oh wait I have to keep this School Appropriate, don't I? Didn't do what it was supposed to do. Adolf Hitler just invaded Poland and now hes Blitzkrieging through France, Italy's doing its own thing and Japan just attacked the US. Welp, time to go and watch all out hell break loose around the globe.

    Operation Overlord

    Beginning on June 6th, 1944, Operation Overlord is the all encompassing term used for the famous D-Day invasion's of Normandy to take back Europe from Nazi Germany's grasp. On June Sixth alone, 29,000 troops died on the beach.

    Nuclear Arms Race (Stick Measuring Contest) (1960's)

    Starting when the United States gave Japan the first High Definition look at the Sun, there was a Nuclear Arms Race between the Soviet Union and the United States. This was a time of terror, as Mutually Assured Destruction was around every bend.
  • World War Two is over!

    On September 2nd, 1945, Japan surrendered onboard the mighty battleship USS Missouri. With Hitler already being dead and Mussolini being long gone, this brought an end to World War Two.

    Fortunate Son

    We all know that song. The "Theme Song" for the Vietnam War. Starting in November '55, the United States of America sent troops in to Vietnam to train Republic of Vietnam soldiers.
    Fun Fact: 1969 is when my Grandfather left Vietnam. That's also the year that it got more heated in 'Nam.
  • *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

    The space race is on! Russia and the United States are racing to see who can do what first. In essence we were just having a "Stick Measuring Contest" if you will. But, Russia took an early lead on October 5th, 1957. Russia launched the Sputnik Satelite.
  • Russia put a what in space?

    The United States of America and the Soviet union are deep in a space race. At this point, Sputnik had been orbiting for almost a month. And then, on the Streets of Moscow, a Friendly Face got selected to go to space. Layka was a Street Dog in Moscow. Layka is also the first living animal from earth to orbit the planet. Sadly she died around seven hours in and wasn't recovered, as the rocket burned up and disintegrated upon re-entry.
  • “I see Earth! It is so beautiful.” - Yuri Gagarin

    On April 12th, 1961, Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man to complete a full orbit around the earth. One of his most famous quotes about the flight is "I see Earth! It is so beautiful", and "I looked and I looked but I found no God.".
  • Let the Games Begin

    March 8th, 1965. Da Nang, Vietnam. This was the day that the United States officially began combat in the Vietnam War.
  • No More War! No More War!

    The Students for a Democratic Society and the Women's Strike for Peace met in Washington, D.C. on April 17th, 1965. This was the largest peace protest in the United States at that time.

    The famous line uttered by American Astronaut Neil Armstrong when he became the first man to step foot on the surface of the Moon.
  • We are done here

    On March 29th, 1973, the United States Military completed its full withdraw from the Vietnam War. With that, peace would be held until 1990, when the United States got involved in Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
  • Berlin Wall is falling down, falling down, falling down!

    On the day of November 9th, 1989, the Berlin Wall, Iron Curtain, the Border between Democracy and Communism, fell. This began a chain of events that lead to the breakup of the Soviet Union. And with that, the Cold War came to an end.
