  • Proclamation of 1763

    Thid proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war.They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the Frenc and Indian War.

  • Quartering Act 1765

    This law was passed by Parliament in 1765. This law required for colonists to house and supply British soldiers if they knock on the door. This law was passed because this saved Britain money.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    This was another law Parliament passed in 1765. It required official documents to carry stamps on it. The stamps showed if a tax has been paid on it.
  • Townshend Act

    This was a plan made by Charles Townshend that was passed by Parliament. It suspended New York's assembly until they agree to provide housing for troops. It also placed duties or import taxes on various goods. This was a way to raise revenue in the Colonies.
  • Tea Act and Boston Tea Party

    The Tea Act which placed tax on tea was the reason Boston Tea Party occured. The Tea Act was passed by Parliament in 1773. This law gave Britain control over Indian company ships, and tea could only sold by specific merchants. The Boston Tea Party was a protest, there were men disgiused as Indians that boarded a ship and broke 342 chests of tea.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord 1775

    The battle of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. It occured on April 19 at Lexington; 700 British troops arrived and 70 militiamen were waiting, but then someone fired and 8 militiamen died. So, the British marched to Concord, but a battle occured at a bridge of North town, which British troops retreated from. Then 4,000 Minutemen lined the road from Concord to lexington and shot the retreating Redcoats.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    This was a document drafted then was sent to London in Jully 1775. The document was called Olive Branch Petition. It asked the king for peace in the colonies and Britain. Unfortunately, the king rejected it and decided to punish the colonies.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This was a proclamation of independence. It was composed ny Thomas Jefferson. It had the idea of John Locke that if the government disregard their rights, the government loses the right to govern.
