    The Purpose of the Magna Carta was to curb the King and make him govern by the old English Laws that had prevailed before the Normans Came.
  • Petition of Rights.

    Petition of Rights.
    A Request to a police offical that seeks a correct, or a wrong, or to influence public policy. Right to be able to do things freely. Signed in June 1628 by King Charles I.
  • English Bill of Rights.

    English Bill of Rights.
    A act of the Parliment of England. An act declaring the rights and liberties of the subject and settling the succesion of the crown.
  • Albany Plan of Union.

    1754 propsal by Benjamin Franklin at the Albany congress.
  • Boston Massacre.

    Boston Massacre.
    A riot in Boston , arising from the resentment of Boston colonists towards British troops.
  • Boston Tea Party.

    Boston Tea Party.
    A raid on 3 Birtish ships in Boston Harbor where Boston colonists disguised themselves as Indians.
  • First Continental Congress.

    First Continental Congress.
    Declared that colonists should have the same rights as Englishman.
  • Second Continental Congress.

    Second Continental Congress.
    Established militia as the continental army to represent the 13 states.
  • Declaration of Independence.

    Declaration of Independence.
    A document declaring the US to be independent of the British Crown. Signed on July 4, 1776, But drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11, and June 28 1776.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    Originaly binding document of the U.S and served as the Supreme Law of the land starting on March 1,1781.
  • Shays's Rebellion

    Shays's Rebellion
    A revolt by desperate Massachusetts farmers in 1786, Shays's rebellion arose from the Economic hardship that followed the war of Independence.
  • Virginia Plan.

    Virginia Plan.
    A plan, unsuccessfully proposed at the Constitutional Convention providing for a legislature of two houses with proportional representation in each house, and executive & judicial branches to be chosen by legislature.
  • New Jersey Plan.

    New Jersey Plan.
    Unsuccessfully proposed at the constitutional convention providing for a single legislative house with equal representation for each state.
  • Philadelphia Convention.

    Philadelphia Convention.
    A meeting held in 1787 which the U.S Constitution was signed and ratified.
