    French and Indian War

    This war, also known as the Seven Years War, was officially declared by the British in 1756. The British, led by George Washington, fought the French and Indians over territorial disputes.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This treaty officially ended conflicts between the French and Britain. France cedes its territories to Britain and Spain
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was passed as a renewal of the Molasses Act. This raised taxes on sugar and molasses and began to raise the suspicions of colonists with the British Government.
  • Stamp Act

    This act led rise to protests and demonstrations from the colonists and to the major issue of taxation without representation. This major event is what initiated rising tensions between the colonists and England
  • The Boston Massacre

    During protests from American Colonists, shots were fired by British Soldiers at unarmed colonists, killing 5 people. This increased tensions between colonists and Britain
  • Boston Tea Party

    On the night of December 16, 1773, Boston men dressed up as Indians and threw British tea into the harbor in protests to taxes.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    These battles were the first actual battles between Colonists and the British Soldiers. They marked the beginning of many militaristic conflicts between the colonies and Britian.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    Second Continental Congress approves the Declaration of Independence. This document officially announced the colonies' independence from Britain.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This Treaty officially ended the Revolutionary War
  • George Washington First President

    George Washington is unanimously voted to be inaugurated as the first president of the United States.
