  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel that dramatized the horrors of slavery. Was published in 1852 and some say it was the cause of the Civil War.
  • Confederate States of America

    Between 1860-1861, eleven states seceded from the Union. They then became known as the Confederate states.
  • Abraham Lincoln

    On March 4, 1861, Abraham Lincoln took presidency.
  • Fort Sumter

    Located in Charleston, South Carolina. On April 12, 1861, the Union fired the fort but after hours of bombardment the Union surrendered.
