    DeWitt Clinton first proposed the idea of the canal in 1810, before he became governor of New York, but the federal government refused to fund it and so after he was elected governor in 1817, he pushed harder for his Idea.

    In 1824 John Quincy Adams, the current secretary of state and son of John Adams, against Andrew Jackson, who fought in the War of 1812 was elected president.

    Andrew Jackson was the first president who didn’t come from a wealthy Virginia or Massachusetts family he was born into poverty in 1767 and grew up in North Carolina and in 1828 he was elected

    Andrew Jackson had a history with Native Americans. because after the War of 1812, he battled the Creek in Georgia and negotiated a treaty with them on behalf of the federal government. According to the terms of the treaty, the Creek gave up 22 million acres of land and Jackson supported these laws and, in 1830, approved another law that took Native American relocation a step further
