    In 1789, Samuel slater reached New york after leaving his native country of England. He brought with him technology for textile factories, sparking the Amercan industrial revolution.
  • Henry David Thoreau

    Henry David Thoreau
    Thoreau was born in 1817, and would grow up to become one of the leaders of the transcendentalist movement. His most famous works include "Walden" and "civil disobedience"
  • Erie canal

    Erie canal
    The erie canal, completed in 1825, completely revolutionized american trade. The canal provided a direct route inland, and greatly dropped the price of goods throughout the country, This was an incredible feat of engineering, as the canal stretched over a total of 363 miles.

    On the 13th of February,1826, the American Temperence Society was founded. The society worked towards the limit of alcohol consumption, which they beleived was the cause of many social problems including crime and domestic violence.

Harrison's victory marked the end of the era of good feelings, as it demonstrated that there was now oppostion to the democratic republican party. This would change the face of American politics during this period of time.

    The treat of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican merican war, signed in 1848, brought much of the modern day U.S under American Control. The treaty resulted in the annexation of texas, a key part of the treaty.

    The treaty of Fort Larmamie resulted in an agremment beween the U.S and many different Native American tribes, in which the Natives pledged not to attack settlers moving west, as well as agreeing to allow the U.S to build infrastructure such as roads and forts within Indian territory.
