  • Spanish- American War

    Spanish- American War
    The Spanish- American War began in April of 1898 and ended in August of 1898. It was a war fought by the United States and Spain. Two factors that caused the war was the explosion of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana, Cuba on September 15 of 1898. The other factor was the ongoing struggle by the Cubans and Filipinos under Spanish rule. As a result of the war Cuba was declared independent and the annexation of the Philippines.
  • Panama Canal

    Panama Canal
    The Panama Canal is a canal that stretches 50 miles over Panama's isthmus. It took 10 years to build that waterway. It opened in 1914. The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, it connects 160 countries and over a thousand ports across the world. It still is a vital tool for global trade.
  • Federal Meat Inspection Act, Pure Food & Drug Act

    Federal Meat Inspection Act, Pure Food & Drug Act
    The Federal Meat Inspection Act, Pure Food & Drug Act were both passed in 1906 under President Theodore Roosevelt term. The FMIA prohibits the adulterating or misbranding of livestock and such products as food. Also that meat and meat products are slaughtered under sanitary conditions. The Pure Food & Drug Act was passed to prevent the manufacture, sale/transportation of adultered or misbranded harmful/poisonous foods, drugs and medicine.
  • 16th & 17th Amendment

    16th & 17th Amendment
    The 16th and 17th Amendment were passed in 1913. The 16th amendment allows Congress "to lay and collect taxes on incomes" on all Americans. Income allows the government to keep an army, build infrastructure, enforce laws etc. The 17th amendment established that each state gets 2 senators elected by the people (direct election) for 6 years and each senator has 1 vote.
  • World War I

    World War I
    World War I started on July 28, 1914 and lasted 4 year, ended on November 11, 1918. World War I was the first global war that originated in Europe. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on 28th June 1914 was a major cause of the war. Britain, France,Italy, Russia, Romania, japan and the United Sates were part the Allies and Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire were the Central Powers.
  • Workingmen's Compensation Act

    Workingmen's Compensation Act
    Also known as the Federal Employees' Compensation Act provided financial assistance, medical services and rehabilitation to federal employees who have been injured at work. It started off for just federal employees but later on included workers of every industry. Companies and businesses try to protect their employees and themselves from such accidents, now it sometimes even leads to lawsuits to the business/ company accountable.
