    This novel portrayed the harsh conditions of immigrants in the United States and Chicago and similar industrialized cities. It opened peoples eyes on the way there meat was being handled and many people got sick and died from there neglect. And the government finally put a stop to it.

    Franz was the heir to the throne of Austria and a terrorist organization killed him and his wife. This happend during a peace parade in Switzerland. The group that killed him and his wife called themselves the black hand.

    In February 1917 the U.S entered "The War to End All Wars". This started after the Germans sunk a cruise liner with lots of passengers on board including 128 Americans. Which did not initially bring them into the war but was a major stepping stone.

     Women got the right to vote.
    American women gained the right to vote by the passing of the 19 amendment in 1920. Beginning it the 1800's women petitioned and fought for the right o vote but it took them decades to to win this right.It was a long and hard battle for women to gain the right to vote and the start of WWI made it even harder.
