    When Andrew Johnson took over the country, he didn’t care much about the human rights for black people. Black Codes, which were basically racism, were accepted in the south. This is important because it shows that even though slavery system was shut down by the law, there were so many people who continued to treat African Americans terribly.

    The terrorists who were so against slaves becoming free were called Ku Klux Klan; they wore white clothing to represent the white people. However, when Ulysses S. Grant became the president of the United States, the KKK lost its momentum. It is important for U.S. history because it represents the huge scale of racism at that time.
