Expositon 2: Setting
The story takes place in Key West, Florida during the Great Depression. -
Exposition 1: Background
Turtle's mom, Saidebelle, gets a new house keeping job for Mrs. Budnick in N.J. Mrs. Budnick despises chilkdren, resulting inTutle being sent to live with her Aunt Minerva in Key West, Florida. -
Rising Action: Conflict 1
Turtle has a hard time adjusting to her new home. She likes to wear shoes unlike the Conch. She doesn't understand the language of her cousins, and the Diaper Gang doesn't accept her. -
Rising Action 2
Turtle meets part of the Diaper Gang. One of the boys, Kermit, says no girls allowed. -
Rising Action
The Diaper Gang doesn't have any money to buy ice cream from Jimmy and gets upset when they can't charm some from him, especially when Turtle tricks him out of a scoop. -
Rising Action 3
Aunt Minnie accuses Turtle of playing with the paper dolls Saidebelle her sister, stole from her when she was little. -
Rising Action 4
Turtle meets a lady named Old Nana Philly. She finds out from the Diaper Gang that this woman is her grandmother. -
Rising Action 5
Turtle decides to regularly take luch to her grandmother, so she can get to know her better. -
Rising Action 6
Aunt Minne accuses Smokey of soiling some laundry and, therefore, says her cat must go. -
Rising Action 7
Turtle finds a map to Blacke Caesar's treasure in her grandmother's old broken down piano. -
Climax/Turning Point
Turtle decides to invite the Diaper gang to go searching for Blacke Caesar's treasure with her. -
Falling Action 1
Turtle and the Diaper Gang steal a boat and head out in search of Blacke Caesar's treasure. -
Falling Action 2
The kids stumble upon the treasure, and then find out their boat is gone when they try to go home. -
Falling Action 3
The children are stranded on the island, and they have to stay overnight in a small shack to wait out a hurricane. -
Falling Action 4
The children wake up to the sound of Ollie calling their names. Slowpoke and Ollie rescue them and take them back home. -
Falling Action 5
Mama and her new husband, Archie, come to take Turtle home with them. -
Resolution 2
Archie steals Turtle's part of the money from the buried treasure and leaves Mama and Turtle in Key West. -
Resolution 3
Aunt Minnie invites Mama and Turtle to stay with her family in Key West. -
Resolution 1
Turtle takes her mama to go see Old Nana Philly to say good-bye. Mama and her her mother make up and have a heart-warming reunion.
