Turning Point Timeline.

  • French and Indian war

    Colonists fight in the French and Indian war, promised land by the king if done so. Unfortunately after the war, the king falls into a million dollar debt.
  • Proclamation Of 1763

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because the king promised the colonists land after the war, but ended up lying and preventing them from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because colonists were taxed and a commonly used item, no taxation without representation.
  • Stamp Act

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because the colonists were taxed on anything that was made with paper, this increased tensions because no taxation without representation and because the colonists were being taxed on such a commonly used thing by the king
  • The Boston Massacre

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because British troops open fire on innocent bystanders, killing 5 and the killing being dubbed the Boston Massacre. This increased tensions by scaring the colonists and making them turn their backs on the king.
  • Tea Act

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because colonists are forced to only buy British tea, his increased tensions because you can’t have taxation without representation and because tea was such a commonly used thing.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because colonists protested and boarded British ships while dressed up as Mohawk Indians, dumping about 5 million crates worth of tea into the Boston Harbor, this increased tensions because the colonists resorted to destroying property and putting the king deeper into debt.
  • Intolerable Acts

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because in response to the BTP, the king closes the Boston Harbor and prevents trading with other countries. This increases tensions by making the colonists angry and making it to where the colonists can only trade with the British.
  • Lexington and Concord

    "The shot heard round the world."
  • Olive Branch Petition

    This event contributed to colonial tensions because the colonists create the Olive Branch Petition as a last attempt at a peaceful resolution with the king, the king is selfish and rips up the petition. (Colonists then fight for freedom).
