    "the Enlightenment, a philosophical movement of the 18th century, characterized by belief in the power of human reason and by innovations in political, religious, and educational doctrine." In this time there was a lot of revolutionary developments in various disciplines, art, etc.

    7 Years War

    The "French and Indian War" is considered the first truly global war by a lot of people, including Winston Churchill. The British and the French fuoght, both supported by American Indians, because the British partywanted to expand the original 13 colonies and this territory was very impotant to the French.
  • Sugar Act

    Soon after the 7 Years War, Great Britain was in great debt and George Greville realized he could make money off of an old act, "The Molasses Act". He changed the tax cutting it in half and increasing the ammount taxable items.

    Townshend Acts

    This were another set of legislations by the Parliament, the "program" was proposed by Charles Townshend and its main purpose was to raise revenue in the colonies to pay all the governors and judges and have them be loyal to Great Britain. There are 5 acts that are always considered: Revenue Act, Indemnity Act, Commisioners of Customs Act, Vice Admirality Court Act, New York Restraining Act.
  • Boston Massacre

    Also known as the "Incident on King Street", this snowy Monday, soldiers of the British Army shot a group of people harassing them and killed 5 of them. For a very long time, the colonists and the military had a horrible relationsship, partly because of this.
  • Tea Act

    The Parliament of Great Britain passed this legislation to drain the British East India Company warehouses from its huge amount of stored tea and to prevent the company from bankruptcy. It was also supposed to convinve the colonists to buy this tea instead of illegaly smuggled tea because this way they got more money through the Townshed Acts.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This political protest took place in Boston, Masachusetts as it name suggests and it consisted in the people of Boston throwing a whole shipment of tea into the harbor. Its motto was "No taxation without representation", this meant that they didn´t want to be taxed by the British Parliament, where they were not represented. This was in response to the "Tea Act".
  • First Continental Congress

    During the Intolerable Acts a group of delegates represented 12 out of the 13 colonies, they sent a letter to King George III saying how they didn´t like the way they were being treated and that if he didn´t stop enforcing the Intolerable Acts, they would boycott English goods. He decided not to listen and they started the boycott.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The "Coercive Acts" were implemented by the Parliament to punish in retaliation for colonial defiance.
    They closed the Boston Harbour until the tea that was destroyed during the city´s "Tea Party" was paid back, they abrogated Massachusetts, they also determined that British oficials were allowed to go to England or any other colony for trial and they also said that the colonists had to give housing to British troops. This was bad because of 1770...
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Made by the Second Continental Congress. It stated that the 13 American Colonies (New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia), which were at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain, were 13 independent, sovereign states, under no British rule. They formed a new nation: the United States of America.
