The Declaration of Independence was created to explain why congress voted to be independent from Great Britain. Many important men in history signed this document. The Continental Congress formed a union that would become a new nation called "United States of America." -
Civil War

War broke out between the northern states and the southern states because of economic differences and the south wanting to keep slavery.
The Civil War ended slavery in the United States. The states rights were more clearly defined. The economy in the north stayed stong and became stronger in the south. -
Assassination of John F. Kennedy
At 12:30 PM in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States was assassinated. He was shot by a sniper while traveling in a car with his wife Jackie, Texas governor John Connally, and wife Nellie. There was a ten month investigation by the Warren Commission that Lee Harvey Oswald killed the president. Americans suspected their was a bigger plot to kill the president and there was a cover up. America stood tall and strong after that day. -
Apollo 11 Lands on Moon
Launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida from landing on the Moon. Commander Neil A. Armstong and lunar module pilot Edwin Eugene Buzz Aldrin, Jr walked on the moon while command module pilot Michael Collins orbited above. Apollo was a significant event because it was the first time that humans had set foot on the moon. -
World Trade Center Terrorist Attack
Islamic terrorists lead by Osama Bin Laden hijacked 4 airplanes and flew them into major American landmarks (World Trade Center North and South Towers, The Pentagon, and field in Johnstown Pennslyvania.) The Islamic people wanted to cause as muxh physical, emotional, mental, psychological, and financial harm on America as possible. Osama Bin Laden was caught and killed.
