    The stamp act was passed to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the seven years war. The stamp act required the colonists to pay a tax represented by a stamp on various paper products. The colonists reacted by boycotting British goods, rioting, and attacking tax collectors.
  • Stamp Act Congress Meets in New York CIty

    Representatives from nine colonies attended the stamp act congress including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and South Carolina. The stamp act congress meeting was convened by the representatives of the nine colonies above in order to pass a declaration of rights and grievances that claimed all American colonists were equal to other British citizens.

    The Townshend Acts were a series of measures passed by the British parliament that taxed goods imported to American colonies. The Townshend acts included the Suspending Act, the Revenue Act, the Indemnity Act, and the Commissioners of Customs Act.
