Mark Morris is born in Seattle, Washington. He is born into a family quite passionate about music, and at an early age is introduced to Flamenco and Ballet, mainly by his mother.

At the age of 16, Morris graduates early from High School, and travels to Spain to train as a Flamenco dancer.

Morris, due to the Franco Regime, moves to New York City, and lives among other artists, all the while performing in the city. (Companies of Hannah Kahn, Laura Dean, and Eliot Field)

Morris gets together a group of friends and performs original choreography in Seattle and New York City, twice annually.

Morris’s first notable work premieres, titled “Gloria”.

Morris premieres his second major work, “Championship Wrestling”, based on an essay by Roland Barthes.

Morris is approached by the head of the Royal Theater in Brussels, and is offered a stage for his company to perform. Morris accepts, and until 1991, the group performs on one of the greatest stages in Europe.

Another major work of Morris, he choreographed the Opera based on the tale.

Partnered with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Morris founds the White Oak Dance Project, and creates works for the company until 1995.
