    The Transcontinental Railroad was a 1,912 mile railroad line that connect the eastern U.S. to the west coast. Construction of the railroad was financed by both state and US government. This was the first railroad to span across the country, making it useful for a lot of people and businesses.
  • John D. Rockefeller started Standard Oil

    John D. Rockefeller started Standard Oil
    Rockefeller used oil and his compant, Standard Oil, to become the most powerful man in the United States. Oil at the time was used for different things like lighting in houses. Rockefeller lasted a long time on top with his Standard Oil company.
  • Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone

    Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone
    Bell's invention of the telephone blew away the country. At the time of it being invented, it was the best way to commincate of almost any sort of distance. The telephone still remains as one of the greatest inventions of all time.

    Hawaii to America was a necesity to continue to grow. Hawaii is in the middle of a lot of different trading routes, so they took advantage of that. They took over Hawaii and made it a state and they use it for a place to put a base and for sugar plantations.

    The start of the Boxer Rebellion
    The Boxer Rebellion was an uprising against foreigners in China. It was started by peasents, but was later on supported by the government. A secrect society known as the Boxers encited on a violent rage to drive all foreigners from China.

    This act outlawed the construction of dumbbell shaped style tenement housing. In addition, it set minimum size reuirements. It also mandated the installation of indoor bathrooms, lighting, and better ventilation.

    The release of "The Jungle" woke up the nation. Upton Sinclair wrote about the horror stories that took place in the workplace. The stories in this book led to new laws and regulations for the workplace.

    An interracial American organization created to work for the abolition of segregation. In addition, it pushed for the abolition of discrimination in housing, education, employment, voting, and transportation. They want to oppose racism and ensure African Americans their constitutional rights.

    This tradegy opened the nation's eyes. Nobody had any idea about the poor working conditions in garment factories. The fire led to many deaths and therefore, federal regulations were created to protect workers.
