    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The battle of Iwo Jima was a large and extremely important battle which allowed the US to tKe control of Iwo Jima, a Japanese island. The battle lasted about five weeks and was filled with violent, bloody, and scarring warfare. This battle also happened to the more American lives than enemy lives which is rare.
  • The Rape of Nanking

    The Rape of Nanking
    The city of Nanjing was invaded by the Japanese army in 1937. The Japanese committed mass murder and rape all across the city killing hundred of thousands of people. It is not possible to assign Japan's atrocities during World War II to any single cause. The frequency and variety of circumstances of massacres and atrocities by the Japanese military means there had to be a range of causes. The effect of this event led to the deaths of thousands of innocent Chinese people, armed or unarmed.

    German Blitzkrieg
    Germans attacked enemies within short battles using a method called blitzkrieg which translates to lightning war. This was technique worked very well which let to Germans controlling most of Europe. This method of war consisted of heavily armored troops and machines supported by air forces attacking small spots.

    Operation Barbarossa
    This event was the invasion of the soviet union by german forces. It is known for being one of the largest invasions in history, including millions of german forces attacking the Russian front. The motivation for this mission was hitlers need to control all of Russia's territories. The operation ultimately failed due to lack of proper planning and execution. Hundred of thousands of german soldiers as well as soviets soldiers were killed in combat.

    Invasion of Pearl Harbor
    On a seemingly normal afternoon, Japanese planes came in out of nowhere and bombed American ships in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This attack on the US lead to lots of anger towards Japan which later led to lots of racial discrimination and segregation of Japanese Americans. The bombing of the American ships was the turing point for the war because it let America to join in on the action.
  • Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

    Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
    German authorities murdered an estimated 300,000 jews in the Warsaw ghettos between July 22 and September 12 1943. Only 35,000 jews were allowed to continue living in the ghetto after the mass killing. Underground organizations were created by the jews and they were known as the Jewish Combat Organization. These fighters and the germans battled for supremacy, ending in the annihilation of the jewish resistors.

    D-Day
    Considered the largest sea invasion in history, operation Neptune claimed the lives of at least 10000 allied forces and 9000 axis troops. This operation liberated the French from Germany and helped the allies win the war. The landing of the water crafts came after a large scale bombing of german territory and a landing of british and american paratroopers.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    This event was a major German war campaign that happened toward the end of the war. The planning for this operation was highly secretive among the germans which meant that there was a lack in radio transmissions and moving of troops. Even with all of the secrecy, the US eventually found out about the planning. After a while the germans attacked a lightly guarded section of allied territory, grounding lots of the US forces. About 610,000 american men and 200,000 german men were involved.

    This was the holiday celebrating the end of ww2 in Europe. Hitler killed himself on the 30th of april which led to the german surrender.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    This event was one of the most destructive in history. It involved the dropping of two of the most powerful weapons in history, the atomic bombs. The bombs were dropped on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The effect of these bombs were extremely terrifying as they killed thousands of innocent people and left others burned and deformed from the radiation.

    This event is known as the day that japan surrendered from the war. This event effectively ended ww2 for good.
  • The Invasion of Poland

    The Invasion of Poland
    Germany along with the soviet union planed an attack and tried taking over Poland using multiple strategies along with brute force. With the mind of General Franz Halder thinking up strategies, and the tactics of general Walther Van Brauchitsch, Germany was able to create a plan that would annihilate Poland's opposing forces. Poland would soon think twice about stealing resources from Germany.
