  • Philo Farnsworth is born

    Philo Farnsworth is born
    The inventor of the T.V. was Philo Taylor Farnsworth at the age of just 21. Up until he was 14, he lived in a house without electricity. He began thinking of this idea in high school. Boris Rosing had conducted some experiments in transmitting images in Russia16 years before Farnsworth's first success.
  • The First Television

    The First Television
    The first television was successfully demonstrated in San Francisco on Sept. 7, 1927. Philo Taylor Farnsworth designed it. It was a complete square and only displayed images. There was no sound.

    The first television had very poor picture quality. The screens were extremely small at about an inch wide. By 1931, there were 25 broadcast stations in the United States. The broadcasts could travel long distances, but had awful picture quality. Because of poor reception and quality, the mechanical TV wasn’t a success.

    In 1941, the FCC enacted the first television standards.A 525-line system had been developed, and this was the standard that was chosen. Later that year, the FCC approved commercial TV broadcasting and created a licensing category for commercial stations

    NBC, DuMont, ABC, and CBS came out soon after the war ended. In 1948, only 10 percent of the American population had seen a television set. Most people did their viewing in a public location, such as a department store, tavern or store window. Three million people watched the final game of the 1947 World Series on TV, and 90 percent of them watched in a public location. Also in 1948, color was added to the Television which was a great improvement

    Today, almost every family in the United States owns a television set. There are many TV providers that broadcast many channels. Most sporting events can be viewed on TV. Also, new technologies have been released such as Smart TV, BluRay, and 3D technology.
