Polly then finds the letters between John and Jessie, and that Jessie is in love with him. -

It’s getting late so he changes his plans and decides that they are going to Blaine Lake instead, so that Polly can explain to Jessie that Polly and John are married and that she should back off. They go on a rural road and John stops to shoot some geese. Then he points the gun at Polly's head, and shoots the top of her head off. Then buries her body in a hole he dug under the culvert -
