Timeline of Revenue Acts

  • The Royal Proclamation of 1763

    This act was issued by George the 3rd and was to officially claim land in America after the Seven Year's War. This also set guidelines for settling rules for European settlers.
  • Sugar Act

    Lowered the duty on foreign molasses by half price. This also raised the duties on foreign refined sugar.
  • Stamp Act

    This act was the first direct tax on the American colonies. This act meant that every legal document had to be written on specially stamped paper, showing proof of payment.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act was put into play the first day that the stamp act was repealed. This stated that Great Britain was able to tax the same in the colonies as they did on their homeland.
  • Townsend acts

    This was a series of acts passed starting on 1767. They were passed by Great Britain regarding America named after Charles Townshend.
