    Begining of French and Indian War
    -It began with a dispute over control of the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, called the Forks of the Ohio, and the site of the French Fort Duquesne and present-day Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    • The Sugar act was used to have the colonial merchants pay a tax three cent per gallon on the importaion of foreign mollasses. It also banned the importation of foreign rum and French wines.
    • This hurt the British West Indies market in molasses and sugar and the market for rum. -The Sugar Act caused many problems in the American colonies, mainly because of economic problems
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    -Parliament agreed to start the Stamp Act in January 1765. The Stamp Act called for a tax on various kinds of paper products in use.
    -The problem with the Stamp Act was that Parliament misjudged the reactions the Americans would have in the colonies.

    -Once the Stamp Act was implemented opposition was strong and violent.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    -The Townshend Acts were based on the fact that taxes imposed on goods imported by the colonies were legal while internal taxes like the Stamp Act were not.
    -The colonist were furious about the new indirect taxes and way they were being used
    -The non-importation agreement was again in effect. Colonist made do with local products and refused to buy any British goods.
    -Colonists, made their own clothing and found substitutes for tea.
    -They used homemade paper and their houses went unpainted.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    -On March 5, 1770 five American colonist were killed by a group of British soldiers stationed in Boston. The soldiers were in Boston supposedly to keep order, but towns people viewed them as spies, trouble makers and in competition for colonial jobs.
    -The Boston Massacre began when a young apprentice shouted insults at a British officer standing guard. The soldier on duty front of the King's customs house then allegedly hit the boy with his rifle. The boy yelled for help, and a crowd of colonis
