Timeline of Revenue Acts

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    This was the first act that taxed goods to pay for the French and Indian war. The colonists didn't appreciate this and boycotted the goods that were taxed. The British government continued the enforce these acts feeling sooner or later the colonists would purchase the goods.
  • The Currency Act

    The Currency Act
    This act protected British merchants from being given colonial currency. It forbid colonist from issuing paper money, this was a problem because of inflation and the colonists felt as if New England was trying to gain control over them. Colonists were extremely mad about this act and would give the British merchants a hard time when it came time to collect taxes. The British government didn't bother with the people being upset since if they didn't pay their taxes then they were thrown is prison.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The stamp act was an act that heavily taxed all paper products.The colonists didn't take to kindly to this and also boycott paper. The British government was unable to help pay for the American Indian war with this act so they enforced another one.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The government pasted the tea act, they were hoping that by lowering the price of the tea that colonists would comply with the heavy taxes. Well the colonists also boycott the tea hurting the industry severally. With the government losing more money they enacted the last act.
  • The Coercive Acts

    The Coercive Acts
    The Coercive acts were in response to the Boston Tea party, these acts were Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, Quartering Act. These acts are the final straw that broke the camels back and sent the colonist into starting their own revolution. The government responded by sending British troops to America in efforts to control the colonists.
