    The Proclamation of 1763

    The British drew a line or border that cut off the any Westward expansion by their colonies. The Natives would have the area west of the Appalachians. The colonists did not follow this law, and nor did the Natives. King George thought that he would be able to control the colonist settlements.

    The Revenue Acts Started with the Proclamation Act in 1763 and ended with Boston Massacre in 1770. However there was a lot in between these two events.
  • The Sugar Act of 1764 and The Molasses Act of 1733

    The Sugar Act of 1764 and The Molasses Act of 1733

    Also called the Plantation Act or the Revenue Act. British legislation aimed at ending the smuggling trade in sugar and molasses. Sugar Act was reinvigoration of the Molasses Act of 1733. Colonists protested. The tax was lowered 2 years later. The Molasses Act started on December 25th 1733. The Sugar Act started on April 5th 1764.

    The Quartering Act of 1765

    The British parliamentary provision required colonial authorities to provide food, drink, quarters, fuel, and transportation. It was an assertion of British authority over colonies. The colonies replied with outward violence. The Quartering Act was allowed to expire in 1770. An additional quartering stipulation was included in the Intolerable Acts of 1774. The second Quartering Act started on June 2nd 1774.

    The Stamp Act of 1765

    October 7th- October 25th of 1765. First internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British Parliament. The act imposed a tax on all paper documents. British Empire was deep in debt from the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). Colonies resorted to mob violence. Act was repealed in 1766.
  • The Townsend Acts of 1767

    The Townsend Acts of 1767

    A series of laws: The Revenue Act-June 26th 1767, The Indemnity Act-June 26th 1767, The Commission and Customs Act-June 29th 1767, The Vise Admiralty Court Act-July 6th 1768, and The New York Restraining Act-June 5th 1767. They placed new taxes and took away freedoms. These laws put new taxes on imports and gave British officials the right to search colonists houses and businesses, as well as more. Protests in Boston turned violent. Most laws were repealed in 1770.
  • The Boston Massacre of 1770

    The Boston Massacre of 1770

    It was March 5th 1770. Following the Townsend Act, protests in Boston turned violent. British soldiers turned to their captain, Captain Preston. Know one truly knows if Preston gave the order to shoot but one soldier did and so followed the rest. There were 5 killed and more injured. This was known as the Boston Massacre.
