  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The British Parliment implemented the Sugar Act, which was the first tax against the colonists. A tax on molasses and sugar to curb smuggling and to raise money for Britain.
    The Colonist, who had very little money to begin with, felt angry about this tax because they need their money for themselves.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The British Parliment implimented a tax on all stamp required newspapers and commercial documents. This tax had to be paid in British currency and not Colonial money. The monies from this tax went to pay for British troops that were stationed in North America to "protect the colonists from foreign enemies," which the Colonists did not need.
    This Act was very unpopular with the Colonist. It created a secret organization called, "The Sons of Liberty." This tax was never effectively collected.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This Act was a series of 5 Acts implemented by the British Parliment, which was a tax on a variety of goods, to pay for all judges and govenors so they would remain loyal to Great Britian.
    The Colonists saw this Act as an extension of the greed of England's corrupt system.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The British Parliment implemented this Act to help with the struggling British East India Company to survive.
    The Colonists hated this Act. This created the Boston Tea Party, and ultimately the dumping the tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable (Coercive) Acts

    Intolerable (Coercive) Acts
    The British Parliment implemented this Act to punish the Colonists for dumping the tea into the Boston Harbor. This Act was directed at Massachusetts making them an example.
    The Colonists views the Act as a violation of the Rights of Massachusetts, and they organized the First Contenential Congress to coordinate a protest, which lead to the American Revolutionary War.
