Amelia was born in Atchinson, Kansas, she was named after her two grandmothers and had an unconventional upbringing!

Amelia was going to go to Smith College but last minute changed her mind and went to Columbia University. She left after a year of school and went home to be with her parents. Her dad took her to an airfield where Amelia first sat on a plane and flew in the air!

In order to pay for lessons, Amelia had many jobs, some of which include and photographer and a truck driver. Her first teacher was also a woman named Anita Snook!

She set a world record of 14,000 feet above the ground!

Took off from Canada and had complication because of the weather and was forced to land in Ireland. This 15 hour and 18-minute flight was the second solo flight across the Atlantic and the longest nonstop by a woman.

Their last known position was near the Nukumanu Islands about 800 miles into the flight. A search and rescue began to try and find the plane and its two passengers Earhart and Noonan.

The search for Earhart and her plane were unsuccessful and she was pronounced lost and deceased.
