    They believed in westward expansion by the acquisition of new territories.

  • Whigs

    They were formed from the National Republican Party.
    The leaders of the party were John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay.
    They were nationalists.
  • Liberty Party

    It was part of the political outgrowth of the growing anti-slavery movement.
    They wanted slavery to end.
    This party started in 1839.
