  • Proclamation of 1763 (1763)

    Proclamation of 1763 (1763)

    The Proclamation of 1763 was an act/law that forbade colonists from purchasing from the land west of the Appalachians. To make sure the law was followed, the royal government sat 10,000 troops in the colonies.
  • The Currency Act (1764)

    The Currency Act (1764)

    While gaining some more money, the British realized that it wasn't in their own currency. So they made an act declaring that every tax colonials got had to be payed in British currency.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act

    This act forced colonists to be taxed on any sugar/molasses related goods such as coffee and wine. They also placed guards out to watch for smugglers.
  • The Declaratory Act (1765)

    The Declaratory Act (1765)

    This act had now allowed Parliament to be able to make these Acts without fear of the colonists fighting back due to this acting asserting their rights as the ones governing the colonists.
  • The Stamp Act

    This act was passed so where colonists were taxed for paper goods since they had gone bankrupted from war. this was the act that really made people see how Britain would act against the colonies wishes.
  • The Quartering Act

    It was an act that allowed British soldiers to come into colonists homes whenever they needed or pleased, and while they were there, the colonists had to tend to them.
  • The Townshend Act (1767)

    The Townshend Act (1767)

    This act was passed to make more money by placing taxes on imported goods that go to the colonies.
  • The Repeal of the Townshend Acts

    The Repeal of the Townshend Acts

    Since the acts were not bringing in much revenue to help the government, they decided to repeal all the acts except for the one on tea to remind colonists that Parliament has the power to tax.
  • The Tea Act

    This act allowed the East India Company to bypass American wholesalers which allowed tea to be cheaper for them. due to this, colonies tried to dump the tea out in the Boston harbour, which caused the 'Boston tea Party'.
  • Elimination of Trade

    Elimination of Trade

    Virginia, not liking how stuff was going, decided to oppose Britain. They also called in Boston to help eliminate trade.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act

    Allowed for the French Quebec to move as far as the Ohio River, they also allowed the catholic church to have high status there.
  • First Continental Congress

    After much boycotting, in September of 1774, the first Continental congress was held, there it was declared trading would be suspended
