  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was a boundary marked in the Appalachian mountains that forbids Anglo-Americans from settling on the land that was acquired from the French after the French and Indian War. The colonists did not like the idea that they were not allowed to settle on land that they fought for and rebelled by traveling to this forbidden land as they believed the law could not stop them if there were too many of them.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was meant to stop the smuggling of sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies. The colonists were displeased with this and decided to revolt against it which also lead them to revolt to the Stamp Act later in the future
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    The Currency act prohibited the use of any other currency system that isn't the British pounds currency. This stopped them from using bills that they created that was a lot more complex. The colonists protested very intensely against as this made it harder for them to trade as it was expensive during this time.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was the act that enforced more taxes on the colonists to increase the amount of money the British are getting due to the French and Indian Wars. The colonists hated this act as the Stamp Act made many people very poor as they did not have enough money to survive and buy the necessities. They began to boycott the British which had a major impact on the British.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    Quartering Act of 1765
    This act allowed British soldiers to be housed in the colonists homes. It was a response for the increase in empire defenses. The colonists (especially New York) despised this as they were forced to pay for the soldiers and was against their human rights and did not give consent
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act was accompanied with the repeal of the Stamp Act. It's purpose was to say that the taxes in America are the same in Britain. Colonists were very happy with the repeal of the Stamp Act and seemed to have almost ignored the Declaratory Act. It hinted that there was more to come.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    This act taxed all goods imported to America. Despite the Stamp Act being repealed this was a new tax that was brought on goods. The colonists were angry with this and the phrase no taxation with representation was very common.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre occurred due to colonists throwing sticks and rocks at soldiers who were lined up and these soldiers fired back killing 5 civilians. The colonists were beginning to get angrier as they realized that they killed people.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonists threw 20,000 lbs. of tea over into the Boston Harbor which caused the British to lose money as tea was a valuable assets. The British were angry and this event caused the British to later enforce more acts on the colonists.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    There were 5 acts in total which were meant to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The colonists procced to rebel more as they realized this was just an abuse of their power.
  • Quartering Act of 1774

    Quartering Act of 1774
    The difference with this Act and the first one is that this one allowed royal governors to find homes to be housed as opposed to colonial legislatures. They were clearly upset as it was against their human rights.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    The point of the Quebec Act was to allow more religious freedom to get more popularity and get the colonists to like them more. The colonists hated this as they were not part of the same religoin as the British.
