  • The French Indian War ended

    The French Indian War ended

    The French Indian war ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The French gave up some of their territories so the British colonies did not have a military threat.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was a revenue-rising act passed by Great Britain meant to increase duties on non-British goods that were shipped to the colonies. The colonies responded to this new act in protest.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    Parliament passed the Stamp Act to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies. The act required to pay taxes represented by a stamp which made the colonies angry.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act

    The repeal of the Stamp Act and passage of the Declaratory Act was approved by George III. The colonies were glad the Stamp Act was repealed but they had new issues with the Declaratory Act. The British government had authority over the colonies.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea in order to help pay the expenses in governing. The colonies protested , " No taxation without representation" .
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act

    The Tea Act reduced the tax on imported British tea. This act gave the British merchants an unfair advantage in selling their tea which made the American colonist furious .
  • Start of Revolutionary War

    Start of Revolutionary War

    Shots were fired at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts causing the start of the Revolutionary War. The colonists were sick of the taxes.
