    Dredd Scott

    Dredd Scott's court cases caused a law to be passed wich stated that even if a slave owner moves to a free state they still own the slaves they took with them. This essentially allows people to own slaves withing northern state which contradicts the laws that they have passed.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin

    An anti-slavery book that inspired many activists and became very popular within the north. But in the south, the slave owners thought that they were being represented in a bad manor therefore further the souths hatred for the north.
  • Republican Party

    The republican party was formed in response to the Kansas-Nebraska act. The formation of a party only further divided the north and south.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    This act's purpose was, initially, to repeal the Missouri compromise. The biggest effect that this act had was causing the bleeding kansas battles.

    Bloody Kansas

    Bloody Kansas consisted of multiple battles between northern and southern citizens. The fights came about due to ongoing and passionate disagreements.

  • Brooks-Summer Incident

    Because Brooks attacked Summer, republicans started seeing democrats as dangerous individuals.
  • LeCompton Constitution

    This state constitution would protect the citizen's right to own slaves and deny any free African American of their rights. This goes against every belief of a republican and is one of the many causes of the civil war.

  • Lincoln Douglas Debates

    This event consisted of multiple debates between Lincoln and Douglas. The main topic discussed was the Dredd Scott cases and The Kansas Nebraska act. Both of wich are very controversial.
