After his end of presidency, he still had an urge to help. He created the University of Virginua, the first university, to offer all choices of classes.

Jefferson's health began to decrease in 1825, and in 1826 was sentanced to bed. He later died on july 4, 1826, the fiftieth anniversary of the Decloration of Independance, only a few hours befor John Adams.
