  • British discovery of Australia

    Lieutenant James cook was sent to observe and attempt to find the Great southern land. On April 20th 1770 he had found the south-eastern corner. 9 days later he found Botany Bay which he thought could be the great harbour. Straight away he raised the British flag and claimed it as his land
  • Industrial revolution

    The industrial Revolution showed lots of new economic resources like markets arrived and changes in the way goods were transported. It also improved communication and it created more factories and jobs. This impacted the world in many ways, it became a new opportunity to gain in new levels of money and commutations around the world

    The industrial Revolution was a period of time where many new machines were developed like the steam engine. The date on which the industrial Revolution ended is still debatable today. They think that the time it ended was approximately 1820.
  • Gold rush

    The discovery of gold in the 1850s and 60s is the most significant event in the history of Victoria. By the end of 1852 the population increased by 90, 000 and all were in search of gold. Cities in Victoria like Ballarat and Bendigo grew, bringing railways, roads and stock exchanges. The rush led to a massive population boom in nearby city Melbourne. There were Massive amounts of money put into Melbourne which stimulated the economy.
  • eureka stockade

    The battle at the Eureka Stockade near Ballarat in 1854 changed Australia forever. It has been called the birthplace of Australian democracy. The diggers oath 'We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and liberties’, 30 November 1854.

    The Eiffel Tower is the largest iron lattice tower. It was built as the 1889 entrance of the world fare. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognisable structures in the World and one of the biggest tourist attractions.
  • First olympics

    On April 6 1896 the Olympic Games was reborn as an Ancient Greece tradition. The Olympic Games were held in Athens. Over 1,500 years after being banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius I the Olympic Games had been reborn once again and still continuing today. At the opening of the Athens Games, King Georgios I of Greece and a crowd of 60,000 spectators welcomed athletes from 13 nations to the international competition
