    President Richard started vietnamization which was to encourage the Vietnam to become more active in the war. The plan was to slowly draw U.S. soldiers out of Vietnam.

    President John F. Kennedy secretly sent 400 special forces agents to South Korea to learn what was called the counterinsurgency war against Communist guerillas.

    In April, 1964 the U.S. authorized military action in Southeast Asia. They authorized it because the U.S. destroyers were sending intelligence information when the North Vietnam torpedo boats attacked them without provocation.

    Operation Rolling Thunder was the name given to the a mission that involved bombing the Vietnam troops. These bombs had napalm and orange agent inside them which genetically damaged the Vietnam.

    President Johnson sends 3,500 marines to South Vietnam for war without publicly announcing it.

    Americans agree that fighting would be the only way to get rid of Communism, or just shrug their shoulders and walk away, not really caring, not knowing that this would rip the American society appart.

    The Tet Offensive was a suprise attack launched by the Vietcong and the North Vietnamese. The North Vietnamese believed they couldn't survive the damage inflicted by the Americans.
  • Kent State Shootings.

    Kent State Shootings.
    The day that Vietnam troops came home there was a massacre of shooting and murders at Kent State University. At Kent State, were the ROTC building was burned down, National Guardsmen fired into a crowd and killed four unnamed students, one of which was a full football field's length away as a symbol of them protesting the Vietnam War.

    The 26th Amendment was passed during the Vietnam War, This amendment allows soldiers in war to vote because they weren't being able to vote before this was passed. It also allowed anyone 18 or over to be allowed to vote.

    A peace treaty was reached on January 27th, 1973. It was reached because many Americans were against the war and they were debating whether to retrieve the troops or not.

    War Powers Act.
    The War Powers Act is a federal law intended to check the President's power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of the Congress. The resolution was adopted in the form of a United States Congress joint resolution.
