Forty thousand armed Vietminh men go to the French Farrison using Chinese weapons to make it hard for the French to have their supplies come by air. The French found their match at this battle. This was the first battle in the war.

This battle was initiated by the Viet Cong invasion. Four hundred guerillas attacked a villiage in Kienhoa Provence and were defeated by South Vietnamese troops.

Vietcong units defeated the South Vietnamese Army. The South Vietnamese suffered 80 killed and over 100 wonded in the battle.

When President Kennedy was assassinated, Vice President Lydon B Johnson took office. Even with Johnson's efforts to avoid war and negotiate, the war continued. His goal was to not lose the war rather than win.

The U.S destroyer Maddox exchanged fire with North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Golf of Tonkin. Two days latter, the Maddox exchaged fire once again with another destroyer.

The Battle of Hue was a twenty six day battle. The goal of this batter was for the US and South Vietnamese to recapture the area that was seized by the communists. Unfortunately this battle left half the population homeless.
