  • America's First Step

    America's First Step
    During May of 1961, President Kenedy, sends 400 Green Berrets, to help train south Vietnamese forces. This is the first real step taken by Americans that contributes to the war.
  • The New Calvary

    The New Calvary
    The United States pledges to help Vietnam keep it's independence. President Kennedy sent the new helicopter division The new Helicopter was a machine that changed the way the United States Operated. Soldiers could be dropped right into battle, and the wounded could be airlifted to a field hospital.
  • Shift of Interest.

    Shift of Interest.
    President Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas. Vice President Johnson is sworn into presidency. Johnson will escalate Vietnam from tension, to warfare.
  • War Breaks Out

    War Breaks Out
    Three Vietnamese patrol boats attack the U.S.S Maddox with torpedoes, and machine guns. With the attack being unsuccessful,and the patrol boats either destroyed or damaged,the Maddox was cleared to keep patrolling. The first attack of the war has happened.
  • Bombs Away

    Bombs Away
    President Johnson decided to retaliate against the Vietnamese, by bombing targeted locations. 64 bombers were used. This is the first bombing attack against Vietnam made by the United States.
  • Clash of the Clans

    Clash of the Clans
    On this night the Vietcong launched their first attack against American Forces. They attacked the Bien Hoa air base, the motor attack kills two Americans, and wounds close to a hundred others. American Blood has been spilled in Vietnam.
  • Rolling Thunder

    Rolling Thunder
    Operation Rolling Thunder begins. This mission was meant to have over 100 U.S bombers attack targets in North Vietnam, for a total of two months. Instead the mission last three years. A total of 8 million tons of bombs will be dropped on North Vietnam by the end of the war.
  • Need More Troops

    Need More Troops
    President Johnson announces that the number of troops in Vietnam needs to increase. So he sets out a monthly draft of 35,000, and the total number of soldiers stationed in Vietnam will be around 125,000. The People no longer fully accept the War.
  • Battle of Drang Valley

    Battle of Drang Valley
    This is the first real battle between the United States forces, and the NVA. U.S troops were dropped off by helicopter, and the intense battle lasted for two days. Leaving 79 Americans dead, and 2000 NVA soldiers dead as well. The severity of combat is starting to be realized.
  • Friendly Fire

    Friendly Fire
    This was a sad day, and showed the brute force that the U.S military had. Two jets bombed the wrong location and ended up killing 63 civilians, while wounding over 100 more. The Protest back in the United States are growing in attendance.
  • Operation Attleboro

    Operation Attleboro
    Operation Attleboro begins lasting until November 24th. Involving 20,000 U.S and NVA troops and leaving behind a body count of about 2000 for both sides. The U.S uncovered a hidden base. The battle was one of the most intense of the war so far.
  • Pulling Out The Big Guns

    Pulling Out The Big Guns
    Operation Junction City is the largest U.S operation of the war. 26 batallians of combined troops are sent to destroy the NVA's central headcourters in South Vietnam. Over 282 Americans are killed, over 1500 are wounded.
  • Battle of Khe Sanh

    Battle of Khe Sanh
    The American air base, "Khe Sanh", was attacked by a force of 20,000 NVA Troops. The Seige lasted for 77 days
  • Set Free

    Set Free
    Three Prisoners of war are released by Hanoi. First signs of Peace are emerging.
  • Pull Back

    Pull Back
    800 U.S troops withdraw out of Vietnam. This is the beginning of the end, after this more and more troops will be sent home. The war is ending.
