  • Alabama Ruled Bus Segregation VIolated Constitution

    In June, a three-judge panel for Alabama’s Middle District Court ruled 2-1 that the city’s bus segregation laws were in violation of the Constitution. This built on to the Civil Rights Movement, it created awareness to diminish segregation in the United States.

    The Flag of the United States of America was formally dedicated by President Eisenhower. This is significant event because now the army officially had a flag to represent unity for cermonies or different types of honorary events.

    The Sydney Silverman's Bill abolishes the death penality in the UK. This showed governments that justice could be achieved more humanely.
  • United Airlines Plane and Lockheed Constinlation Plane Collide

    United Airlines Plane and Lockheed Constinlation Plane collide mid-air killing all 128 passangers in the deadliest crash of the time. This lead to large changes in cross-country flight and air traffic control around over the United States.
  • "In God We Trust" Became US Motto

    President Eisenhower authorized "In God We Trust" as the US motto which is also on the US dollar bill. This is a bit of a contridtiction because the seperation of church and state was adopted and used in the constitution and for a president to authorize this as the US motto is interesting.
  • Pakistan Becomes an Islamic Republic

    Pakistan breaks off from India and becomes an Islamic Republic. The muslims in India and the Hindus were fighting for so long that Britain gave the musilims their own land.
