    This was the plague of the 1330s. It killed 1/3 of the European population; over 25m people were killed in 5 years. The nursery rhyme "Ring Around the Rosey" is about the black plague. This is important because it killed so many people.

    Christopher Columbus was an Itailian explorer, navigator, and colonizer. He was the first explorer that discovered America. This is important because without this voyage America might not have been discovered.

    Vasco da Gama Voyage
    Vasco da Gama was a famous Portuguese explorer. He wanted to find a route from Europe to Asia. He decided to try his luck and sail east. When his fleet returned in 1499 only half of his crew had survived. This voyage was an important event in history because Da Gama became the first European to reach India by ship.

    Juan Ponce de Leon was the 1st conquistador to explore the modern day US. He explored both south and central Flordia. This is important because Flordie might not have been discovered and things could be different.

    Posting of 95 Theses
    Martin Luther, a monk, began to question the teachings of the church.Oct. 31, 1517, he posted 95 theses on the door of the Wittenburg Church. This marked the beggining of the Protestant Reformation and that's why this is so important.

    Martin Luther is Excommunicated
    The Pope demanded that Luther needed to take back his 95 theses but Luther refused. Luther was excummunicated (cut off) from the catholic church. Luther then began his own church known as Lutheriansm. This is important because it led to him creating his own church.

    Henry VII, King of England, was married to Catherine of Aragon. Henry needed a boy to pass his throne to. Catherine had a misscarriage followed by a boy which died 52 days later. This is important because this led to the English Reformation.

    De Soto explores the Mississippi River
    De Soto (spain), began exploring the Southeatern portion. He discovered the Mississippi River. This is important because he was believed to be the first European to see the Mississippi River.

    King Henry VII est. Anglican Church
    King Henry was married but since he couldn't get a son he wanted a divorce. The Pope did not allow divorces so Henry removed England from the Catholic Church and set up the Church of England. The King now controlled the church and the country. This is important because the king had a lot of power over England.

    St. Augustine est
    In 1565, an explorer named Pedro De Aviles (spain) established the St. Augustine. This is important because it was the 1st permanent European settlement in the US.
  • Washington Kills French Ambassador

    Washington Kills French Ambassador
    Virginia govenor, Robert Dinwiddie, sent Washington to make peace with the French. Washington "accidentally" kills the French Ambassador. This is important because it officially starts the French and Indian war in 1754.
  • Proclomation Act of 1763

    The natives attacked British forts. The British wanted no more wars. They were broke. The Proclamation Act said no British settlers west of the Appalachain Mountains. This was important because it led to the Revolutionary war.

    The 1763 treaty of paris is important because it finally ended the war. There were 4 sides involved in this treaty; france, spain, england, and the indians. This treaty gives all of them land to makethings fair. The Indians were not given anything and were left with the colonist who mistreated them and wanted to take over their land.

    The Quartering Act was passed in 1765. Colonists were required to give a British soldier a place to live and provide them with food. This is important becuase this gave us the 3rd amendment.

    William Pitt beacame new prime minister of England. he realized England needed stronger military strategy and more troops to win the war. He began to pour lots of money into war and sent a lot of troops to colonies. This is important because he helps them become more successfull in battle.

    Gaspee, a British ship, patrolled the coast for smugglers. The captain and crew searched ships without warrants. In 1772, 150 New England colonist burnedd down the ship and colonial suspects were taken to England to stand trail. This is important becaused they searched ships without warrants which is illegal.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This happened when colonist were required to pay tax on tea in 1773. On Dec. 16, 1773, the Sons of Liberty and other colonist dumped all the tea in the harbor. This is important because this made the colonist realize they didn't need a leader.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    In 1775 Bejamin Franklin created a plan for the 13 British colonies to form an alliance with each other to defeat the freanch and indians. Franklin believed if each colony put money and resources theyd be seccessful but the colonist wanted to stay "independent". This is important because it had an influence throughout the war.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Battle of Lexington took place in 1775. The second continental congress met 3 weeks after. It was a convention of the delagates from the 13 colonies. It was held in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. This is important because they decided to start the war that gave America independence.
  • Gen. Braddock Killed

    Gen. Braddock Killed
    Gen. Braddock decided to lead the troops to attack Ft. Dequense on June of 1775. Braddock was told to adopt tactics used by the natives were cowards and had no hope of defeating British. On June 9, 1775, Braddock and his troops were attacked before they could reach the fort. Gen. Braddock was killed. This is important because it showed that the Indians could fight.
  • Winter at Valleyforge

    Winter at Valleyforge
    The winter of 1777-1778 was a cold winter. George Washington and his troops didn't have much shelter or supllies. Washington decided they would stay at Valleyford. 1/3 of his troops died of illness, cold, or lack of food. This is important because it showed his troops how to survive the cold.

    1783 Treaty of Paris
    The 1783 Treaty of Paris was a negotiation between the US and Great Britian. This treaty ended the Revolutionary war and also reconized America's independence. The continental congress named 5 men to negotiate the treaty. This is important because it was the official day America gained independence.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    On June of 1812, the US declares war against Britain because Britain tried to restrict US trade. The war began in July. William Hul led the US in to Canada. Hull and his army surrendered. This is important because it caused so many more battles.
  • Indian Removal Act

    The US government signed peace treaties with the native americans. The treaties were unfair. Some natives signed their land away in 1830. Many died of diseases. This is important because it led to the Sand Creek Massacre.
  • Oregon Trail

    Oregon Trail
    In 1836, settlers wanted to travel to California. The trail was about a 2000 mile trip that took 4-6 months. People either walked or took a wagon. Wagons were loaded food and supplies. Many people died of illness or tiredness. This trial is important because it led people to California which led to California becoming a state.
  • Donner Party

    In 1846 a group of about 90 people left. They used the Oregon Trail. One of the leader found what he thought was a shortcut. During winter of that year they were stranded for 5-6. They ate all thier food and started eating each other. This is important because this journey helped expand the US and it shows how hard things were in that time.

    The year of 1848, the dicovery of a tiny gold nuggett caused people from all over the world to rush to California. There was a population explosion. There were 3 major routes people took and tickets cost $300 to $1000. The California Gold Rush was important because the population growth made California an elegable state in 1850.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The compromise was a balance of free and slave states. The reason they did this was because if one region had more states, the senate would be controlled by the larger. California upset the balance in 1850 so Henry Clay came up with a compromise. This is important because it kept the union together for a while.
  • Fugitive Slave Law

    Fugitive Slave Law
    The Fugitive Slave Law required all citizens to return runaway slaves. Helping a fugitive would result in $1000 and/or 6 months in jail. Judges would recieve $10 for each slave that was returned; $5 to let them stay in the North. This was important because it deepend the divisions in the country over the slavery issue.
  • The Underground Railroad

    The Underground Railroad
    The Underground Railroad was not a railroad and was not underground. It was a network of people and places that helped slaves escape to freedom. Harriet Tubman was a part of the underground railroad and led 300 people to freedom. The underground railroad was important because without it we might still have slaves today.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The battle of fort sumter took place April 12. Confederates opened fire on the fort which was controlled by the US. The Union soldiers were forced to surrender. This was important because it was the first battle of the civil war.
  • Assassination of Lincoln

    Assassination of Lincoln
    On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot and killed President Lincoln at a play at Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C. The attack came 5 days after Gen Robert E. Lee surrendered his massive army at Virginia, effectivley ending the Civil War. This is important because if Lincoln lived history could have been totally different.
