    1935 was the year that Hitler, the German leader, began to defy the guidelines, rules and policies set by the Treaty of Versailles which is what ended the First World War. He started by building the Nations army which was a violation of the Treaty. Rather than punishment, the other European nations tried to negotiate these terms in order to avoid war. This was the start of the rise of German power which lead to the second world war.

    Anschluss, meaning unification, was the term given to when Hitler marched an army into Austria and announced the anschluss of Germany and Austia. This was one of the many places that germany invaded in order to expand on the empire of Germany. Hitler was trying to unite all german speaking nations.
  • Czechoslovakia

    Next, Germany wanted to take Sudetenland which was a largly german speaking and german cultural part of Czechoslovakia. This was a historic event because the alley system began to reapear. France and Britain pledged thretened to help Czechoslovakia if Germany tries to take it. The Czechoslovakian government resisted annexation and the soviet union also promised aid.

    Held in Munich, Germany, the munich conference was a conference that included leaders from Italy, Germany, France and Great Britan. There they reached an agreement to let Germany take over Sudetenland if he promised not to take over anywhere else. This was significan because Hitler didnt stop with Sudetenland and that upset the other countries.

    At the end of WWI, Danzig was taken from German control and made a free city. Then, when Germany was invading Poland, they took Danzig back as well. This was important because Germany was starting to regain what was taken from them after WWI

    The term itself means "lightning war". It refers to the stratagy that Hitler used to avoid long wars. The tactic was based on speed and suprise. Germany used large machinary such as tanks to win battles quickly. This stratigy helped Germany win many battles and gain a lot of territory

    France was invaded by Germany by both land and air using blitzkrieg tactics. France unlike the other smaller countries, held up until june 22. The Maginot Line was a vast fortification that spread along the French an German border but proved unsuccessful when the Germans attacked France. Germans pushed back the maginot line and defeated the french.

    After the defeat of France, British began to withdraw their soldires from France. Germany had the upper hand and could have easily finished off the English troops but Hitler called off the attack and the English were successful.

Their allies, the British, were defeated and retreating to Britain. On June 22, 1940, France signed an armistice with Germany.

    After the fall of France, Great Britan was the only country still fighting in the war. Great Britan's air force may have been outnumbered 3 to 1 but the British had superior radar, intelligence, tactics, planes and pilots.This was the battle that may have cost Germany the war.
