    The Sugar Act was the first law passed from Parliament after the Seven Years’ War. The Sugar Act put a tax on sugar to help pay off the debt Britain had gained after the war.

    The Quartering Act was another law passed onto the colonies by Parliament after the Seven Years’ War. This law meant that the colonies were required to provide any British soldier with food and quarters. They were not allowed to deny the soldiers, so they had to feed them and let them stay in their homes.

    The Stamp Act and the Stamp Act Congress
    The Stamp Act was another law passed onto the colonies from Parliament. This put a tax onto all paper goods. The Stamp Act was very upsetting for the colonies because paper was a big part of their everyday life, from writing letters to their entertainment. This led to the creation of the Stamp Act Congress, which was a group of people who created a document of their grievances due to the stamp act. It was sent to the king and he denied all of their requests. This brought more unity.

    Due to the unfair laws being passed, the Sons/Daughters of Liberty was created. This is a group of people who influenced the colonists to stop buying British goods in hopes of them repealing the taxes. Almost every colonist participated in the boycott and forced the British to repeal the Stamp Act in 1766.

    The Townshend Acts were created to impose a light import duty on glass, white lead, paper, paint, and tea. The tax on tea was not well received by the colonists and caused them a lot of anger.

    The removal of the Townshend Acts was the removal of everything except for the tax on tea. This caused the colonists to start smuggling the tea, which then led to the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party.

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770 due to the Townshend Acts. The British came to Boston and attacked the colonists, killing 5 of their men.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was caused by the anger from the colonists due to the Townshend Act on tea. Since the colonies were not buying British goods, there were 17 million pounds of unsold tea. The colonists saw this as an attempt to trick the British and dump all 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor while being disguised as Indians.

    The Intolerable Acts were passed by Parliament after the Boston Tea Party to punish the colonists. It passed a series of acts, including the closing of the port until the damages were paid.

    The battle of Lexington and Concord was the first battle in the Revolutionary War. At the battle of Lexington, the British commander in Boston sent troops to steal weapons from the colonists. There were shots fired and 8 men died. Britain went on to Concord where they suffered a loss to the colonies.

    The Declaration of Independence was the official document of the freedom from British rule. Since America won the war, they got their freedom. This document was the official statement of that freedom.
