Putin is elected as president. He did not actually rig the elections themselves, but people who planned to vote against him were "encouraged" to vote for him. Putin's presidency was good for the country, but not as good for the people. He is a smart guy and he knew what he was doing. He more than doubled the country's GDP in only a couple of years, and pulled the country out of bankrupcy. As his second term was coming to an end, he changed the law about not being able to be elected for a third term at all, to not being able to run for a third consecutive term. He changed it legally, with the same kind of vote he used to get elected.

Putin signed 2 arms control agreements with Clinton
Putin signs an agreement with Clinton stating that both countries will disable many of their nuclear weapons, and limit the number that they can have. Russia agrees to help US anti-terrorism campaign

Putin is selected as the person of the year by time magazine. The criteria for person of the year is not which person was most beneficial to society, but which person had the most impact in the year. Hitler also won person of the year, and he obviously was not a nice guy. Putin becomes the prime minister of Russia, because he cannot run for a third consecutive term as president. Even though he is not the president, he is still essentially in control of the country, and he can still control exactly what happens in the country. However, he is not "officially" in command. As prime minister, Putin is doing a lot of random things. He held a Judo training session at the Top Athletic School during his working visit to St. Petersburg. He has a 6th degree black belt in Judo. Thousands protest against Putin
Thousands of people rallied in moscow to protest the alleged electoral fraud. They are saying that the Dec. 4th parliamentary elections were rigged, but the government and Putin denies the4 accusations. Putin plans not to go to any presidential debates for the upcoming 2012 election. Instead, he is sending proxies, or representatives to talk instead of him. Putin, after working as the prime minister for 4 years, is planning to run for another term as president.
