The Emperor made a law that trade in the West would only be accepted at the port of Guangzhou. -
British
The British get into the Chinese court room even though the emperor is very excluding of outside countries. They bring presents to show what the Chinese could have if only the Emperor let them trade with each other. -
Retiring
Qian Long retired three years before he died because he did not want to out length his grandfather's reign. -

By now the population is about three hundred million. -

This is the Late Qing dynasty ruling period. -
Lin Zexu
The emperor sent comissioner Lin Zexu to stop trading of drugs in the Guang Zhou port. -
War
The British and Chinese were at war over the drug trading. The war ended in 1842 with a Chinese loss. -
Rebellions
Rebellions caused a great war that lasted fourteen years. -

The Chinese have another war over the same matter and this also ends in defeat for them. -
Controlling China
Britain, France, Germany, Russia and Japan tried to settle areas that they had trading rights in. The areas they now controlled are called the Spheres of Influence. -
War with Japan
China goes into war with Japan over Korea and Japan wins. -
Moderization
The emperor tried to install programs like education, government, agriculture and military. -
Trading rights
John Hay proposed a policy that would free China and let them trade how ever they want to. -
Population
The population has grown to over four hundred million in this dynasty. -
Decline
Revolution broke out and the next year the Emporor gave up the throne.
