  • Truman Doctrine

    Policy stating that the US would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet Sphere. Consider it start of the Cold War.

  • Marshall Plan

    A Plan that gave the European countries economic support after WWII to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism.

  • Berllin Airlift

    This is something the Allied Powers did in response of the Berlin BLockade. They made more than 200,000 flights over Berlin dropping their people daily necessities.

  • NATO

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization an intergovernmental miltary alliance, they participate in a partnership for peace. If a country invades any of the countries in NATO everyone helps them out. 28 countries are involved.

  • Korean War

    war between the Republic of Korea (South Korea), supported by the United Nations, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), supported by the People's Republic of China. It was primarily the result of the political division of Korea by an agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War at the end of World War II.

  • Cuban Revloution

    Overthrow of Fulgencio Btista's regime, beginning of Communist rule under Fidel Castro.

  • The Polio Vaccine

    It was develpoed by Jonas Sulk and first tested in 1952. It wasnt released to the public until 1955. Consisted of an inactivated dead poliovirus.

  • Sputnik

    This was the first artificial Earth Satellite. It was launched by the Soviets, and triggered the Space Race.

  • NASA

    National Aeronautics and Space Administration, this was put in effect by Eisenhower to get a head in the Space Race.

  • Bay of Pigs

    unsuccessful military invasion of Cuba undertaken by the paramilitary group Brigade 2506 in April 1961. A counter-revolutionary militia trained and funded by the United States government's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Brigade 2506 fronted the armed wing of the Democratic Revolutionary Front (DRF) and intended to overthrow the revolutionary leftist government of President Osvaldo Dorticós Torrado.
